Yeah, I tend to upgrade every year. I've found it doesn't actually cost that much (I only ever need the minimum storage as I do so much in the cloud) if I sell the previous one on quickly.

Although I may hang on if Apple only announce a 4.7" for the time being.

I have the 5s, and I will be upgrading to the 6. But I'm going to wait until the frenzy dies down to get the 6. Plus, I don't know if they will make factory unlocked 6's available on release day anyway.

Apple has us all trained like Pavlov's dogs to have our wallets open and ready on keynote day, so yes of course. It's pathetic isn't it.

Maybe. The Note 4 also drops in the fall and I kinda wanna see what Sammy is gonna do before I make my decision

Of course.

No.

I love my tech, and always appreciate my tech being more capable. Getting the latest gadget with the most functionality isn't pathetic, it's fun.

I will wait in tell the iPhone 6S. I upgrade ever other year when the S moded of the iPhone comes out

Or add a 2nd line for $10 per month (AT&T) and get a subsidized phone every year. Yes its a tad more after 2 years but I sell my year old phone to cover the cost plus walk away with $ in my pocket.

I get every iPhone on launch day. I don't let "not having an upgrade" get in the way. If you time it just right, you can get top dollar for your iPhone and only need to "kick in" the equivalent of the subsidized pricing anyway.

That being said, I just switched from T-Mobile to Verizon, and I brought my 5S over (it was a Verizon model anyway)... so my account it eligible for a subsidy... that I will use on the iPhone 6!

This. Even if your timing is not ideal, upgrading your phone every year where one year is a subsidized upgrade and the other is a retail upgrade can average out to be ~$200 spent over two years. Not bad for test driving new tech.

Even though the 'S' models are undeniably better, they are still only a hotrodded version of the preceding non-S model and as most smartphones these days do most things well, I never see the point of buying a hotrodded version of the phone I already own. Hence why I usually only purchase a new phone bi-annually.

If someone is on the 'S' cycle, either by choice or it just marries up with their contract renewal date, I see no reason for them to buy the following model either. Only those with surplus income, or total tech fans and fashionistas buy a new smartphone every 12 months. Once upon a time phones developed quickly but now we're only seeing slight improvements. The need to upgrade every 12 months just doesn't exist for most folk. Do we really need a slight camera improvement, or a new operating system colour scheme once a year? Admittedly the iPhone 6 will bring a bigger screen, so it's a genuine improvement for lots of folk. Therefore we may see more early upgrades than previously.

I agree. I think we will see more upgrades than usual. Would my iPhone 5S hold out for another year? Sure. I would like a slightly larger phone, so the iPhone 6 is very tempting. I figure I don't have kids so it's fun for me to splurge every year. :)

I actually don't mind the smaller screen size of the 5s. I like how it just fits in one hand and is also easy for one-handed use.

That being said, I've had 4.7-5 inch Android devices in the past, and I also enjoy the extra screen real estate. It'll be interesting to see an iPhone 6 with a larger screen.

Now it's just a matter of which size to get... 4.7 or 5.5?

I do cross upgrades on my 3 lines, that way I can get new iPhone every year and sell older ones to recoup price of subsidized new phone.

Yes - want the bigger screen and need more storage.

Me too! I love the 5s but am maxing out my 64gb capacity and for some reason starting to struggle with the 'portrait' keyboard so a larger screen might be tempting. Originally I was not particularly keen on having a larger phone but starting to reconsider.

If the Edinburgh store opens in time for the launch then it is highly likely I will upgrade not least for the fun of going to an Apple Store on a launch day!

I have tended to upgrade every model (only missed the 3g) as generally by selling /trading in the current model I have covered my costs of upgrading. Last year I bought sim free and unlocked as I was 12 months into a 24 month contract so this year I have an unlocked phone to sell :D
