I hackintoshed a lenovo s10 netbook to run 10.5.6, and even with a g card it has so much better reception than my uni MBP that it's not even funny.

Still love my MBP (Don't be hatin'!) but I'm starting to wonder if the new-old plastic macbook with the nvidia 9400 is the true road warrior machine.

I put the new unibody MacBook to the test not once, not twice, but three times. That's right. I took 3 MacBook Pro's (two 15" and one 17") to the WiFi test to see just how the stood up to three white MacBooks...

So you mean to tell me you've testing this with the new unibody macbook pro 17" that is not out yet? Amazing.

See and again I'm not discounting your experience. Its just that, coming and complaining on this board isn't going to make any difference to your current situation (except probably blowing off some steam). There are countless "messages" and "threads" about this and other "alleged problems" and then there are also countless people who have no problems whatsoever.

I'd love to read similar answers (really) to messages like "I've just bought this and it's wonderfuuuuuuuuuul! I cannot understand how I managed to live until now without it". Actually those messages (IMMO) are the useless ones.

I think this thread is very useful for many people planning to buy an Apple notebook. So, like every other thing/thought/experiences/books/opinions/dreams/nighmares in this life, it's all a subjective experience: if you don't like it, skip it as I skip the messages with "wonderfuuuuuuuuuuul".

People should be allowed to express what they want without (offending and) being offended by a bunch of zealots.

Interesting statement here...

Now you have entered into a realm of the metaphysical. Can you define, with perfect objectivity, whether something is alive or dead? What consistutes life anyway and if Apple machines are alive, then did they evolve into life, or were they given life by their creators at Apple? If they evolved, at what point did they achieve "life." If they were created, then were we created?

Hmmmm...

I think Apple computers are actually living things and simply some work better than others , strange but then again ....

thanks to the OP pointing this out allthough i already knew that problem! and i dont understand so many posts in this thread. again its like there are so many apple users who feel personally offended when somebody points out a problem or weakness of their holy mac!? i dont understand this.... dont get me wrong i love my macs and would never ever switch back to any other system. however if the macbook for 1000 bucks has a better (stronger) wifi than the pro for 3000 bucks its definitely a weakness of the macbook pro and it doesnt matter whether its aluminium or not because there are possibilities to avoid the problem....
just my 2 cents :)

Metal case instead of plastic.

I'm tempted to give you crap about your Mac knowledge esp after your self-righteous, "I know more about Macs than you will ever know. I've got over 20 years in this game. What do you have? 1, maybe two? I have a showroom with 45."

Left me with the same feeling. Usually I've found that people that feel the need to do that... ah well nevermind it's not worth it.

I think it's partly Apples routers. I've noticed you get better speed on routers with antennas vs without. I get about 85% strength in my basement with concrete walls while my Linksys WRT45G router is on the 3rd floor.

Might just be a bad combination of router, and mbp.

Solution...airport express upstairs.
Real solution, apple uses wifi in notebooks with working drivers and working hardware. If other notebooks can keep connection no problem than its a problem that apple can and should fix. The end user should not have to network their house to fit the poor quality driver/hardware (whichever it is).

That is a lot of crap, repairman. Firs of all my classic mbp connect better and faster than my friends toshiba or hp both with vista on the same network, at the same location. Second repairman status doesn't mean you an expert. Some dude claiming an expert told me once that i need to update apple drivers in order to experience faster internet on my mbp. The real reason for slow internet is an outdated router.

You guys have been totally trolled. You should have realized after his second post: "when I have a...a PRO!"

Nobody speaks like this except to make fun of an unreal snob. You've all been played by someone who registered here just to get the mactards all riled up. I say abandon this thread as a serious topic.

I have the new Aluminum MB.

I am certain its your router. I have been using my crappy router, which my ISP gave to me for free (go figure), and my MB works fine - no problem.
