I actually enjoy using my iPad 3 much more than the Mini, though the latter is brilliant for portability as its fits my coat pocket. Main beefs are the obvious dip in res, screen size, but also the lack of ram.
For a long time I thought I'd be all over a retina Mini when they appear, but now I'm not so sure. I want the best cpu/gpu/ram combo when the next gen appears, so I'll probably plump for a maxed LTE iPad 5 and sell my current two. I just fear a retina mini, when it appears, will just be a shrunk iPad 3. I've no problem with my iPad 3, its primarily a reading/entertainment device for me so its perceived lack of oomph has never bothered me (I use a laptop/desktops for all productivity), but when I buy a new device I want the bleeding edge this time around for maximum longevity.
