If you do that, you end up paying $175 ETF and one month service - but you do get to keep your current number.

On the other hand, if you just upgrade your current line, your ETF in 1 year will be ($175-12*5)=$115 and no extra month of service. But I guess even though you'll save money, you'll have the hassle of losing your old number.

All i have to do is pop my sim out of my 3g and stick it in the 3gs and i wont lose my number. what are you talking about?

Yeah my 3G was $500 and was an early upgrade...

The only thing to keep in mind is if you went from the original iPhone to the 3G, you're still eligible to get the 3GS for the early upgrade pricing.

It sounds like if you paid $299 or less for the 3G last year, you can get the 3GS for $499/$399.

Yeah, but in that case we'll have to pay the no-commitment price for next year's model (as you said, no two "early upgrades" in a row). That one should be more worth upgrading to anyway (presumably OLED screen, front-facing camera, much more power-efficient custom SoC from the P.A. Semi division with 45nm-based multi-core processor, etc.). So, I'll probably skip this one and get next year's iPhone.

Anyways, thanks for the info :)

I switched to sprint paid the ETF and then I will just port my number back on launch date and return the pre. Although i'm really beginning to like the multitasking features of the Pre, makes Pandora and others apps much better.

I know that won't qualify you as a new customer again (you have to be gone at least 90 days), but will they refund the ETF you paid?
