I must ask what exactly the point of this thread is? It seems as if you're trying to "stick it" in the face of iMac owners who are happy with the gaming performance of their machines.

See to me that isn't the ultimate gaming machine. Since 2005 I've been big on playing games on my iMac (under the Windows of the time) because;

-The displays are fantastic. It's all well and good having the best computer hardware on earth, but if you're going to be looking at it on a 20-24" display or (worse still) a HDTV, then that's no good. Games just look mindblowing on this 27" display. I can't wait until a 3D version of this comes out.

-They're quiet. I thought that might have a negative impact on the life of my machines (getting too hot and not doing much about it), but my 6 year old o/c iMac is perfectly alive.

Besides 3 monitors? I used to run a dual display setup and they are not for gaming. The "split" down the middle instantly ruined the immersion in a game. One big monitor or bust.

It also looks hideous, big and heavy. Not the kind of thing I'd want in my office taking up too much space.

no need to defend your 'beloved' iMacs…

I don't own an iMac and probably never will. I'm just passing through this thread randomly and thought I'd point out that if you didn't want people to respond defensively maybe you shouldn't have written your original post differently.

Perhaps you meant some of it in good humor, but without knowing anything about you, the post sounds a bit condescending from the way I read it.
