Apple is hugely dependent on the iPhone. I think the the modest evolution (nothing wrong with that) of the 7 is very much proof that the 8 will be another game changer.
Not to mention, there's got to be a special iPhone for Apple's 10th. Anniversary Year with iPhone.Well, one thing is for certain. The camera will have dual optical image stabilization and it is rumoured that the iPhone will be glass and it's display will be from edge to edge like the Samsung Galaxy Edge.
Adding limited edition AirPods in the box could be a 10th anniversary feature. Tim REALLY wants to get those things out to market and slow some of the nevernoheadphonejack hysteria. Btw, the jet-black AirPods look awesome. Especially the case. Much less dental floss looking than the white. Not to mention, there's got to be a special iPhone for Apple's 10th. It's just like cars now. Manufacturers milk the same look adding a couple new features here and there and then redesign after 3 or 4 years. People need to let go of the fact of the original iPhone being ground breaking you will not get an experience like that for a long long time (if ever) . This is now a slow gradual year by year update where phones make slow and steady improvements.I'll say this, aside from "new product" launches (original iPhone, original iPad, etc.), Apple increasingly underwhelms me with their hardware updates. Nothing earthshaking certainly. Even iOS has been underwhelming in its incremental updates. I continually hope for great new features and am disappointed when I watch the keynote. Maybe it's just me having such high expectations since the launch of the revolutionary original iPhone. I just feel nearly every time I am excited about an Apple product update cycle, I end up disappointed. Now, if I wait TWO update cycles (as I dis in the case of my new iPhone 7, I get somewhat excited, but yearly updates, rarely). Like I said, it's probably just me...but Apple is world class at hyping updates. I'm cautiously optimistic about next years phone but won't be at all surprised if it ends up less than many expected (and I know people sometimes want unrealistic features, but many of the features people seem to want have been in other phones for years). I love the iPhone and think it is the best, safest phone available, but revolutionary, they have not at all been (perhaps with the exception of what they are doing in the SoC field which is somewhat mind boggling).
I still find keynotes to be increasingly underwhelming. It's just like cars now. Manufacturers milk the same look adding a couple new features here and there and then redesign after 3 or 4 years. I tend to jump from Android and apple. was on Android for a 2 year cycle this time coming back to Apple on the 7. I am glad I enjoy both oses as it is always a treat and refreshing when I return to one or another.

Decent point, but even if I knew about some cool new features, I'd be excited to see them Demo'd at the Key. Just haven't been too excited watching them for some time now. Maybe next year will surprise me.Part of it may be that we already pretty much know what's coming because of an increasingly accurate rumor mill.
I'd say there's zero chance of that happening. It doesn't have to be 10 years to the day. Any release in 2017 will be considered the 10th anniversary.
I'm not to sure. I wouldn't be surprised if Apple released the anniversary phone in 9 months time to coincide with the release of the first iPhone. It wouldn't be the first time that Apple changed a product cycle. The fact that the design hasn't changed for the 7 makes me think this is even more possible.

Phones are different though. Even Apple's own upgrade program is based on leasing the phone for a year, isn't it?
I find it strange that so many people are taking an internet rumour on face value and assuming next year will be the big update.
How often are internet rumours a year in advance true? They don't start getting any kind of truth until a few months before release. Remember the iPhone pro that surfaced with its 3 pin connector on the back? that ended up being wrong and that was doing the rounds until about a month ago.
What if there is an iPhone 7s next year with incremental upgrades? What if the iPhone 8 isn't what the rumours say?
Of course it's everyone's choice but I think a bit more scepticism is needed and not believing every rumour so far in advance.
I seriously doubt Apple is planning a special "10th Anniversary" iPhone. Apple is not sentimental. They are about making money and lots of it. That's the bottom line. They will release whatever phone they please as long as it maximizes profits. Obviously from this launch, Apple could very well release an iPhone 7S and sell just as many as they would with a "10th Anniversary" iPhone. The key is what will be cheaper to manufacture? My money is on an iPhone 7S. And besides, as others have pointed out, rumors this early in the year are dubious at best and maybe even leaked by competitors to disrupt sales of the iPhone 7.
