Unless your system is weird like mine because it fully supports Core Image.

So maybe it needs to be fully "supported" to run properly? Could it be that 64MB VRAM isn't enough or, with integrated graphics, if the system needs more it pulls resources from that aspect of the UI?

I don't know, but the inconsistency looks to be "supported" vs "hardware accelerated" or "software".

Edit: scratch that. Clearly with the examples above the problem must lie elsewhere.

I've heard it's possible to enable it by using Quartz Debug. I really don't want to install all of the Dev Tools just to get QD out. Anyone know what package it's located in on the Leopard DVD?

That would make sense for most people but my Core Image is Hardware Accelerated and I get no tranparency in the menu bar. I really think it's a bug because I get all the other effects (ripples in Dashboard, Time Machine effects and transitions, blurring right click menu). If my PB can do all that it certainly can support a simple Core Image effect.

how is your dock and coverflow? can i get a screen shot?

True. There must be a conflict somewhere if some people are getting it and others aren't (all with CI supported in some way). It's working fine here (1.67 PB).

The dock is darker due to the DarkDock mod (makes it a lot easier to see).

Silly question but are you sure it's not working? That picture and colour would make it hard to tell IMO. Have you tried it with the "space" desktop so there's actually some elements to show up /stand out behind the menu bar?

It's not a silly question, it's a perfectly good one. I just switched to this wallpaper but I'll show you a shot with the Bamboo wallpaper because it's much more prevalent with that than it is with the Leopard default.

"Solid as a rock" as they say.

I've posted this elsewhere but for those of you following only this thread:

I did some messing around with Quartz Debug and have found that the blurring is done by Quartz Extreme and not Core Image
