You cant expect the iphone or even every single phone in the world to be compatible with all bluetooth systems.

It's just the way it is. For what its worth my iPhone 4 works perfectly
with a brand new Ford truck ( my friends not sure the model) Sync system
we play music, take phone calls and works without a hitch.

considering the underlining technology behind ford sync Apple does not have an excuse. It basically means Apple is refusing to play nice with MS. MS provides the standards Apple is the one failing to address the issue.

I've got a 2010 Fusion Sport and the iPhone 4 and the only thing that does not work is the voice commands and text messaging.

I have done a lot of research on the SYNC forums and this is an issue with Apple not allowing these options in the Bluetooth profile of the iPhone. It wasn't even until iOS 4.1 that you could use the Next and Previous track buttons in the car to control the iPhone iPod app.

Several Android phones and others have the full Bluetooth profile enabled and can use all of the SYNC features. Apple is just being Apple when it comes to this and is slowly including more Bluetooth features with each iOS release.

FWIW: Voice commands work fine on the Bluetooth Device Sync between my iPhone 4 and my entertainment system in my 2011 Chevy Cruze.

Somehow GM is doing it fine, so I'm not sure why Ford SYNC would have trouble.

I went and looked at the new Cruze. I want it as a daily driver in the next year or two. Granted it was the first one on the lot and the salesman had no clue how to do all the sync stuff we had it paired to the phone quickly. The voice commands weren't working though. I would hit the button and say "Brett XXXX" and it wouldn't call him. But if I said to call 501-123-4567 it would and then show his name on the dash. That's not the way it should work I'm sure, so what did I do wrong?

I wasn't using my iPhone with the Ford SYNC when I saw it demoed but it worked fine and called people based on name and played the correct playlists by name too.

I've been a big fan of the iPhone for years but now I'm beginning to get fed up with this device. I bought a new Ford about a month ago and even with iOS 4.2 GM the iPhone still cannot maintain a connection with the Sync system. Even if it does stay connected it may or may not operate as expected (streaming, voice commands, etc.). 4.2 fixed the choppy USB streaming but that is about it.

Even if both parties are to blame at a technical level there is no reason for this to still be a problem. The iPhone is beginning to lose its edge on a number of fronts.

Maybe it's a problem with your Ford Sync?? Cuz I have an Edge and haven't had any issues related to streaming music via BT. The only think I wish they would integrate is the use of the cars buttons on the steering wheel to forward songs. Maybe that's in there in 4.2, not sure. And voice commands work like a champ. Every now that then I'll say to dial a contact, and I'll get some rando response. But not very often.

2010 Ford F-150...everything works great except one thing, I don't get audible text message alerts when it's connected via bluetooth. It will vibrate though. Anyone else have this issue?

I was referring to the music voice commands that SYNC responds to. Voice dialing works just fine. I can't say "Play artist Foo Fighters" when listening to the iPhone through Bluetooth and have it start playing a song.

Sync Disconnecting Repeatedly

I have a 2011 Ford Taurus and my bluetooth disconnects 5-6 times during my half hour commute to work with my iphone 4. I was told by my dealership that I have the most current sync software in my car. I was hoping 4.2 would solve my problems, I guess not. I also read that all iphone - sync problems started when iphone software 4.0 was released. I dont know who is to blame but I just wish I could find a solution.

Try turning off WIFI, found that suggestion on another forum and Voila! no more uncommanded bluetooth disconnects ever! Starts making sense for a lot of people who say that every morning when they are pulling out of their driveway the bluetooth disconnects without fail...basically its like a conflict between the wifi and the bluetooth when a wifi signal either is initially detected or drops off. Weird, I know, but my husband and I both have iPhone 4's with 4.1 software - he has 2010 Expedition with Sync and I have 2011 Flex with Sync, and before we made that change, both of us had the same symptoms....

On a side note, my phone bluetooths fine, but my streaming audio is sporadic...while his streams fine. Shows connected in the media, but doesn't come through the speakers (checked the lower right corner of phone when connected too for the sync/internal speaker being set correctly). I finally ended up backing all my music to a 16gb thumb drive and keep the USB as my main music source...

2010 Fusion Sport with Navi - No issues

As noted, I have zero issues with my 3GS and iOS4.x running on my system.

I think the problem lies with Microsoft Sync. I never once had a bluetooth call drop on my iphone with Toyota's system. On a Lincoln 2011 Sync system, the same phone is constantly disconnection form bluetooth. Apparently this is very common to the Sync system with regard to iphones.

You won't be disappointed. It was the last car I test drove out of 7 (Honda Civic, VW Jetta, Toyota Corolla, Ford Fusion, Dodge Avenger and Dodge Charger were the others), and I actually wasn't even considering it at first until I saw the hype. Then it almost didn't happen because the dealership near me ended selling off their stock on the day I was scheduled to test drive one. I was just getting ready to sign off on the VW when I got a call that another Cruze in the color and trim level I wanted happened to show up. And when I finally got to drive one, I was completely wow'ed.

You have to start off by saying the command "Bluetooth, Voice." The one drawback is that OnStar comes standard on the Cruze, and to seal the deal the Cruze's interface favors OnStar first for any phone-based commands. So it will try to access that directory (which was blank because you hadn't activated anything) before it even thinks about trying any paired phones. You have to steer it to the iPhone first.

Or, you can just hit Menu on the radio and scroll through the phonebook that way. I've found that to be faster than the voice commands anyway, though the voice interface works if you're moving in traffic and need to keep your eyes on the road.

You are a lifesaver! Turning off WiFi has completely stopped my disconnects.

Thank you VERY much

iPhone 4.2.1 and Ford

New Expedition purchased 3 weeks ago...issues with iPhone 3GS (4.2.1) and Ford Sync. I called dealer who told me it was iPhone issue, called Synch Help (on screen number) who told me they never heard of this issue after 4.2.1. I eventually removed fuse #3 and reinstalled with success but it is happening again. Any ideas?

Seems kinda weird to claim that MS is properly supporting the standards. Windows didn't include a Bluetooth stack until Vista. The CE Bluetooth stack has been buggy in weird ways for years (see Windows Mobile for example). I wouldn't discount a bug on either side or even both.

I use a Kenwood head unit without problems right now. I had an older unit that did have problems because the BT unit wasn't integrated. Resulted in a bug where BT became unavailable until I hard reset the head unit. There are simply some real WTF bugs out there in car equipment these days.

I have a Ford Mustang with SYNC. No problems at all with my iPhone 4. Looks like others aren't experiencing the issue you were either. Don't know what to tell ya. But glad your Droid works I guess.

I don't know if this will be of any help, but I have a 2011 Honda Odyssey Touring. I have had problems with BT from day 5. My phone would go from the car to the handset to the car to the handset constantly. Honda would not do anything till they got to see it happen in real life. FINALLY after 5 months they got to see that and now replacing the controller tomorrow. I hope that does the trick. They did mention there was a bad design and the company making them had to make new ones, yet know one at Honda knew anything till after they got the problem to happen. Car manufactures suck! But maybe you need to have ford change their controller. I hope it fixes my problem.

2011 Focus, two iPhone 4s.. both connect without issues via bluetooth. Neither ever disconnects. Both stream music beautifully. Both connect via USB. Neither studders while playing through USB. Voice commands work great.

Perhaps it is a Taurus issue?
