I don't think so. I think it's just that they are using an outdated bluetooth profile in sync. Maybe Ford wants you to get the navigation package so they only give you a newer bluetooth profile if you get navigation. Usually they can update the firmware of the head unit at the dealer.

Ok. Do you know if when I do the Vehicle Health Report and it says there are no updates for the SYNC, that it probably has the latest version?

Should I just take it in and ask them to look at it?

It probably does have the latest version, they just are are using an old bluetooth profile for some reason.

Ok thanks!

I did just learn from this thread to turn on Notifications in the SYNC BT profile on iOS and now I'm actually alerted to incoming messages! For the last two months of owning the vehicle I was annoyed that I didn't know about incoming messages while connected to the car, unless I looked at the screen. I'm glad that was a simple fix and not a flaw.

Had some issues again yesterday with messaging on Sync. This is the only way to get it back (until it decides to fail again):

1) Delete your phone from the car. Delete Sync from your phone. Wait a minute to make sure everything clears.

2) Turn the phone off and on again. You don't need to reboot the phone but make sure it is physically off and then on (not just lock and unlock). Turn the car off and then on again.

3) Pair your phone fresh w/MFT. Let it do its thing (phonebook loading, voicemail #, 911 assist, etc.).

4) On your phone, turn BT off. Turn it on again.

5) Hit "connect" on the MFT screen to reconnect BT.

6) Go into the settings screen for Sync. You should now see "Show Notifications".

7) Set Notifications to "On".

8) Back up a screen on the phone and turn BT off again. Turn it back on.

9) Hit "connect" on the MFT screen again to reconnect to BT.

Sadly, messaging thru MyFordTouch/Sync has never worked for me and even with above guide the message fails to send.

I am looking forward to newer updates now that Ford has severed it's contracts with MicroSoft.

When did that happen? Was there an article about it somewhere that I missed?

Edit:
I found it in the Detroit News:

The Detroit News reported in February that Ford plans to ditch Microsoft for BlackBerry’s QNX software for its next-generation SYNC system, which is likely at least a year away. Ford at the time did not deny the plans, but said it works “with a variety of partners and suppliers to develop and continuously improve our in-car connectivity systems for customers.”

Why did they choose Blackberry? The handwriting is on the wall as the death of the company looms.

Tried this and wasn't successful. Step 6 the settings inside of the phone section? I don't see a show notifications. Just "text message notifications" which text to speech is selected.

I still get the same error message currently connected phone does not support text messaging via Bluetooth

Thanks for this guide

Yes #6 is done under the BT setting on the iPhone. Glad it works for you. Again its only for receiving b/c MFT doesn't support sending on iOS.

QNX is a major player in the infotainment system segment. Ford has announced they will be introducing Apple CarPlay in future models. Moving to QNX allows them to do that. Blackberry may be split and sold at some point but the QNX portion they bought in 2010 is very valuable and relevant.

Cool! Do you have a link on the CarPlay announcement?

Excellent! I admit that I haven't paid any attention to CarPlay before. I've only had this new car for a couple of months and the previous vehicle was a 2003 F-150 which had no new-fangled technology in it.

Same thing with me! Really excited that ford joined in. I assume when the time comes us existing MFT users will have to a download it similar to how we upgrade the software.

I'm curious, does anyone here have a Windows Phone that they use with Ford Sync or MyFordTouch?

If so, does it work well together and have you used an iPhone with Sync as well? How do they compare in terms of compatibility and working options?

For example, with my iPhone, I get alerts through Sync when an SMS comes in, but no alerts for emails and other stuff. As noted earlier in the thread, no music info is displayed when connected via Bluetooth. But it's probably limited to the Bluetooth board in the car from what was mentioned earlier.

I just really want to know if having a Windows Phone paired with Ford is better than having an iPhone paired with it.
