So I think this might be the best thing I've ever seen.

I went to lunch today at the local Panera and saw this from a distance:

(sorry for the blur, its an iPhone pic)

See it? Back there?

Yeah, its a man on an iMac. Who needs a MB or MBP when you can lug around an entire iMac and set up shop?!!

I snapped another one closer up when he went to get another beverage:

Might be the most ridiculous thing I've ever seen. I just had to share with everyone. :)

Wow, I have never seen anything like that, did you see what he was carrying it out with? Was it just the box that it came with because I don't know if there are many "sleeves" or "cases" for an iMac.

Oh, no, he definitely had a "backpack" carrying case. When he left, he slid it over the whole machine, flipped it over, stuck his BT keyboard and mouse in and zipped it up.

Definitely designed for just such an affair. It was quite impressive.

i'm surprised that the store employees didn't say anything

why would they? who is he hurting?

do you see a sign when you walk into a panera that says sorry our wifi is for laptops only?

i think its awesome i mean heck you only need one cable for the imac to work, the wireless keyboards are so small now they fit nicely in a briefcase or heck your POCKET and bingo you're all set

Well, their website kind does:

Yep, it's free. Just sit down, open up your laptop and you're ready to go. Send an email as you munch a warm bagel. Read the news as you sip a latte. It's a nice alternative to the office, isn't it? Please relax, do what you need to do, and stay as long as you like. The Wi-Fi's free all day long.
(emphasis mine)

perhaps because its going to draw a lot more power than a laptop, and the fact that it has to draw power, unlike a laptop.
because it doesn't quite fit in and takes more space.

i know its not against the 'rules' but it could put off some potential customers too.

i'm not saying its wrong, i'm just pointing out the other side of things.

yeah i guess i mean it would sound kinda silly if they put in there "or drag your all-in-one computer from home!" lol

perhaps because its going to draw a lot more power than a laptop,
most people i see have their laptops plugged in, and i think an imac would prolly draw about twice the power of a laptop, say 250watts compared to 90watts, and on a 2400watt circuit..its not that big of a deal

i guess, you would have to be a real ass to take offense to it though, sorry if anyone reading this does :p

Well... if we take it as saying that you can only use their wi-fi if you use a laptop, we can also take it as saying that you can only use their wi-fi if you're eating a warm bagel and drinking a latte. ;)

Want to surf while you have a cappuccino, or maybe a croissant? Get thee to Starbucks! :p

Ha, yeah, I was just being a smart a- ...*ahem*... a smart guy.
Don't mind me. :)
