The thing is that new macbook/macbook pro's are just around the corner. There is a good amount of evidence that points to this, including Apple telling suppliers to stock up for 3-4 weeks, this was said a week or two ago. I've heard stories that retailers are starting to go low on stock of macbooks and macbook pro's.

There were also some pictures of case leaks that seemed to be legit, and of course there is the buy a mac get a free ipod promotion.

I've searched through the forums and people are always speculating that something new is around the corner, but right now there is solid evidence that a new macbook/macbook pro is coming.

Now if you need the laptop right now then theres not much you can do except maybe buy a macbook and get a free ipod, sell the ipod and when the new models come out sell your almost brand new macbook. You'll lose some money but it you can decide later if the upgrade is worth the difference in cash. Now if you don't need the laptop right now, by all means wait. Don't forget that Apple may announce the new laptops but they may not be coming out for another couple of weeks.

I'm almost tempted to bookmark this thread and comeback when the new Mac laptops are introduced to see who will/wont have bragging rights.

Last year I saved 900 bucks by buying one generation back. Three months later, I was two generations behind. Now I'm three(?) generations behind. Here's the difference in usability: I can't do the pinchy-squeezy-rotaty thing from my trackpad. Otherwise, it's still more computer than I actually need, and it's still beautiful in all it's aluminum glory.
Buy now and stop torturing yourself.

the new macbooks and macbook pros are coming out at the end of this month. they are NOT coming out on september 9. trust me on this one. i will bet 100% that i am right (no just a random guess...i actually know this for fact ;))

anyway, to TC, buy it now, you wont have any regrets :) congrats

did I say they were coming out on the 9th?? The announcement if any will be the 9th :D

I think it would be dumb to buy now(unless you NEED it), less than 2 days before a potential announcement. Just wait, only 28 hours and 15 more minutes.

OP just find something to do in the mean time. There are 2 football games (American) on tonight. If you're not down with that, Prison Break is also on it will all be over before you know it :D

Looking at the MacRumors buyer's guide....Apple hasn't updated their high-end laptops in SEPTEMBER since they were PowerBooks at that update was in 2003!!!

https://buyersguide.macrumors.com//#MacBook_Pro

Since they've been fairly consistent w/ these patterns I wouldn't expect a release even at the end of the month...look for OCTOBER! *gasp*

Well they used to update and introduce products in September quite frequently, since MacWorld Paris event was still on at the time. ;)

The 15" Alu PowerBook was introduced then, I think. I got my rev B 12" PB in September 2003, I believe.

If I had no computer, I'd buy a MBP now. They're fantastic, and if the new MBP design isn't as nice, or the keyboard, speakers, and everything else is either crap, or not much of a step up, then what was the point of waiting?

"Used to" being the key to your post. You're right, the PowerBook was indeed introduced on that September in 2003 ....and a professional laptop hasn't been announced since.

Great, wait 3 weeks for a POSSIBLE announcement.....then wait another 2 weeks until they begin shipping.....shipping will take at least 2 weeks because they'll be backlogged and your unit could be shipped from China...you could, best case, be waiting over a month still.

If you need it buy it now. Nothing will be announced Tuesday.

Pft yeah. Just moderate components updates , an architecture change, a name change, and additional, sub standard, features :D

The problem is, the design is timeless & functional. I'm sure they will figure out what to change/fix but as I sit here today, besides some serious GPU mods, I don't think there needs to be any drastic changes.

Then again, we need someone to innovate.

Hi Im new here.
Ive been looking to get a new mbp for a while and need it by the end of september. I would obviously like to wait as long as possible for the new models but even if they are announced sometime this month how long do they typically take until they ship? If its not immediate are the old models (but not refurbs) still available from the apple online store?
Thanks

I bought mine on Friday, hell with waiting. Im sick of waiting for something that might not come. Anyway, this machine is an absolute beast! I couldnt be happier with it. If you want it, and you get it, just make sure you wont beat yourself up for not waiting. Im ok with not having the most up-to-date. Not to mention, I got a free iPod touch which I sold already for a couple hundred, you wont get that on the new ones. You can also get a printer for pretty much free, which I doubt they will offer on the new ones.

Anyway, just do it. Who knows how long you might be waiting.

Unfortunately in the UK there is no ipod promo! (at least as far as im aware...)
I did here someone mention that sometimes they start a UK ipod promotion in the middle of september, is this right or complete rubbish?

I succombed to impulse and a great deal and got a 17" MBP 2.5 with hi def screen and 200 gig 7200 HD, (and the works) for $1700. I couldn't pass it up. Springboard Media had some and they sold out right after I got mine ( so I didn't have a chance to post here ).

I don't think I will regret my choice. I can always give it to the wife. We are gradually converting to Mac anyway.

LOL for not being able to wait until the 10th October... at the latest. Upgrades are imminent so it makes sense to wait. However, if you're impatient or you really need a laptop now, then go ahead and spend your money. Just be sure to avoid the web for the next few months so that you won't see what you missed out on.

This next update, that will probably come out first part of October not September 9th, isn't going to be that much of a difference EXCEPT they will probably dump the crappy/self-destructive nVidia gpu and go back to ATI. For that alone, it's worth waiting another 4 weeks or less. If it weren't for the gpu issues, the currently shipping MBP is a decent machine... even if it's outdated technology that you pay a premium price for.

The UK promo happens a little later this year. I believe something was leaked/announced about it. I didn't pay it much attention because I live in the US.

No, waiting, waiting, waiting when you can be using the computer now is stupid.
Waiting for an update that may come this month, was 'supposed to come in June, July & August and will probably come in October or later...is stupid.
If he doesn't need it now then waiting is fine but if he needs then waiting is like chasing the dragon. Stupid.

whatever. personal preference. Resale value on the newer model will be much higher if the case is redesigned. It will 'look' state of the art for...well probably 5 years.

i bought my MBP last february.
after months and months of " valid", " confident" predictions of the dates of the new release which started NOVEMBER 07'
believe me, it' not worth the wait.. especially if you have some REAL work to do and the money to buy it now.

one thing is for sure..
after the new MBP is released ( whenever that be)
there'll be hundreds of threads here with 2 main topics.
1. disappointment thread for those who waited and not get what they DREAMT the new MBP will be like blu-ray, etc
2. Waiters thread, people who will predict that the "NEXT ONE" will have more bells and whistles than the current one.

:D

When iPhone 3G was rumored to be announced, tons of rumors and pictures flooded the internet, and we found a bunch of them to be accurate.

Now, iPod nanos are rumored and we're finding quite a few leads supporting the longer design.

But for MBP's, the only lead we have are those pictures posted on that Chinese site www.apple.pro .

Either Apple is really really good at hiding MBP info, or they aren't happening tomorrow. My idea is that it probably isn't happening tomorrow, otherwise we would have seen a lot more intelligence slip ups.
