T-Mobile offered my dad $630 for his iPhone 12 mini (Magenta Max Military plan; otherwise it would be $830 trade) on his existing account. It would cover cost of the iPhone 16e, still considering it. He likes the smaller phone easier to carry around in pocket so he'll probably keep the mini.

Unlikely to happen, that ship just sailed away.

In the other hand, you may like to try with the iFlip that Apple surely will release to fill the mini’s market.
We'll see what arrives from Apple. My mini is still good, so I probably wait until next CEO takes over - if not, another small phone it will be while I keep the mini as a mediaplayer that is also is now.

Hopefully someone with newer ideas will take over after Tim. Someone with more interest in consumers, and not only the stockholders. A big company as Apple should keep some products that are not making the biggest sales, to have a broder view towards the market.

But absolutely, an iFlip from Apple will be interesting.
I’d love it! Sadly, I’m not getting my hopes up at all for it.
Neither do I - I expect absolutely nothing from Tim.
My mini will do until he's gone, if not, I'll do as stated above.

What if Apple offered the mini as a special order at a premium….

Lots of third party retailers still selling them if you want one.
Is there a reputable that sells a 128GB version new and unlocked? Best Buy is out of stock.

Apple brick and mortar stores were selling it until yesterday...except that they had been out of stock of 128GB for weeks.

Not sure AI is quite the draw Apple hopes it is.

I was just with some "normie" friends the other evening and literally not one of them knows or cares about AI anything beyond hearing about it constantly in tech stories

It is such a complete and utter nothing burger that SV is trying SO hard to force on everyone

It just will not take ... normal people, on the whole, see no value and have no interest, certainly enough to justify the seeming obsession with rolling it out everywhere and in everything ASAP.

It just reeks of "tech money is out of ideas for the next big thing"

I’m in a prime Apple location where new releases are typically unavailable/sold out on release day…every single location nearby is listed as available for pickup/walk in. Not a good look so far although I wish all the best for the 16e

It's an overpriced entry model

No clue why anyone would be excited for this, let alone "lined up for it" or "pre-ordering!"

Nobody forgot. LOL.

Too many gimped features. The camera sensor is smaller and worse than iPhone 16. No MagSafe, no UWB. More recent reviews now show the C1 performing slower and lower signal strength compared to X71.
The camera is better than on my 12 mini. The battery is double the capacity and everything is twice as fast when comparing the internals. Never used magsafe on my phone and never will and in case something revolutionary happens the case will probably have magsafe anyway or I can still buy a 5 Euro magsafe sticker. And UWB? Who the hell cares about that? LOL! Got it, this phone is not for you but its great for a lot of folks.

I would sure hope so -- your 12 Mini is nearly 5 years old

Yes it's a physically much larger device so it has more battery capacity

The internals are much faster because it's nearly half a decade newer

And UWB? Who the hell cares about that?

People that use AirTags I would assume?

I got 5 AirTags and had no problems finding them. What's the big deal? And yeah the 16e is for people who have older phones like me who want a new phone like me who don't need some of the features the 16 has like me and don't want to pay almost 1000 Euros for a damn phone. Just like me. Its also great for kids and companies.

There are a variety of comments here about the 16e being a $400-$500 phone, way overpriced, etc. What are people basing this on? What comparable phones to the 16e (I realize this can be quite subjective) are on the market that are so much lower priced? I am talking retail prices not carrier/store promo discount prices.
