There are a variety of comments here about the 16e being a $400-$500 phone, way overpriced, etc. What are people basing this on? What comparable phones to the 16e (I realize this can be quite subjective) are on the market that are so much lower priced? I am talking retail prices not carrier/store promo discount prices.
For me it’s not whether the 16e is overpriced or not. It’s more about there no longer being an affordable iPhone product any more. I first stepped into the Apple ecosystem because of the iPhone SE (primarily the price). This led to me buying an Apple Watch. I got a low-end iPad. My in-roads into Apple products increased, and now I even have a MacBook Pro.

Could I afford a more expensive iPhone? Right now in my life - yes I could. However, I work in a warehouse and I don’t want to risk a “large screen phone” in that environment. If it was cheaper, I’d risk it. If it was smaller, I’d risk it. But neither cheaper *or* smaller? I won’t risk it. So, for me, I have no plan to replace my iPhone right now. That’s due to the decisions Apple have made with the 16e.

People are see the iPhone 16e like an iPhone SE 4 but the problem is that the 16e is not in the same family as the SE…

It’s an iPhone 16 family member not an SE…

The apple problem is to not have release any other iPhone SE…

As a Mini 13 user, even if I could get over the increased size of the 16e, them not including MagSafe would have nuked the appeal for me.

I would not buy a phone that's 4 years newer, but has omitted features I already have, use and love (MagSafe)

I haven't plugged my 13 Mini into a cable in ... 8 months maybe?

Affordability is, of course, subjective but I was more questioning why people felt the 16e was a $400-$500 phone, way overpriced, etc. not whether or not Apple should be offering a DIFFERENT phone at a lower price. I happen to think Apple, as a premium brand, should stay out of the low end of the market but that's a separate discussion.

The Google Pixel 9a is getting released next month and it’s estimated to be released at the same price it is now…$499 usd. It’ll have MagSafe charging, etc for much cheaper than the 16e. Apple and Tim Cook really dropped the ball, again, on this one.

If anything, I’m thinking this is typical Apple fashion where they intentionally specced it down and raised the price so it looks all
The more attractive to just spend a bit more and get the regular 16. It’s getting really old with Apple doing that.

You can get a brand new Pixel 9 for less than the watered down iPhone 16e!

The omission of MagSafe makes no sense. They definitely could have included it but chose not to. It's sad and hilarious to see at the same time.

A case for the 16e is 10 Euros at Amazon, and 12 Euros with Magsafe. It's literally just 2 Euros more to have Magsafe back if it's that important to you.

I'm not sure where you are getting your figures from but, as I stated in my post, I am talking retail prices not carrier/store promo discount prices or whatever. Pretty much all phones can be had at some sort of discount, including the 16e, but my question was referring to comments people had about the 16e's "too high" (in their opinion) $599 retail price.

The 128GB Pixel 9 at Google right now is $799 which is $200 more than the 128GB iPhone 16e price at Apple. It's not less.

You may not be alone, but if Tim doesn’t approve, your wait will be forever sad to say.
That video was an absolute joy seeing more people sharing my wish, of a refreshed mini.

On the other hand, I've seen who Tim is since he took over after Steve, so I keep my expectation close to absolute nothing regarding him. But even that guy have surprised me at times, so who knows what will show up. A great Apple flip can be a great phone for mini people perhaps?
My mini can take another year or two without falling apart, so I am cool for now.

The folding iPhone may indeed be a “spiritual” successor to the mini. I would probably stay away from the first gen. Whenever my mom needs some help with her 13 mini which she got in 2023 a few weeks before they discontinued it, I definitely appreciate the lightness compared to my 14 Pro. I do appreciate the larger screen of my 14 Pro once I hold it again.

Definitely expecting stores to have plenty of stocks. Looking forward to seeing actual user reviews in the coming days.

I’m watching Flossy Carter’s review of it right now is as I type this…he is NOT being very kosher about the iPhone 16e. He’s usually pretty spot on and doesn’t hide his feelings, he’s calling it hot trash.
