The iPhone 8 will be remembered as the most ignored in history. Embarrassing.

Why is it embarrassing that Apple was able to meet the launch demand? I bought an 8+ because it is a great iPhone for what I am looking for. Would I like the X, probably, but not for the price and not at the same battery life as the 7.

So much negativity in a story about picking up a phone. Calm down people. The 8 is actually very nice looking and has the same incremental upgrades every iPhone ever has.

Amen!

I bought the 8+. It is the spearhead of evolution for the series that started with the 6 and should be an excellent phone for the 4 years I plan to keep it.

The X looks great and I am sure I would enjoy it, but not for the price. Also, it has the battery life of the 7.

I think the 8, 8 plus, and x are good iPhones. Not great.

I didn't think apple would announce the 8, 8 plus, and x.

I thought they would only announce the 7s and 7s plus. But the 8 and 8 plus are just in fact only incremental upgrades to the 7 and 7 plus and should have been called 7s and 7s plus.

My main gripe with the 8 is that it doesn't have an oled screen.

And my main gripe overall is that AppleCare is more expensive for all devices. And that the cost per incident to get something fixed also increased while on AppleCare. I mean come on apple you already charge us an arm and a leg for the phone now you are going to rip us off on AppleCare? That's bullsht.

I'm not upgrading. I have a 256 iPhone 7 plus. I would have highly considered upgrading to the 8 plus if it had an oled screen and AppleCare was the same price.

Many people feel this way too. My 7 is performing well and Im waiting to see if touch ID is coming back or some other innovations in the iPhone Xi or what ever is next

I think it makes sense to have both a successor to the traditional iPhone design (8) and the new design (X). There are some perplexing parts to Apple's strategy here though. Why the continued existence of the 6s series, for example? The SE makes sense as it has a smaller screen and that classic form factor. But the 6s seems to cloud the offerings due to its similiarity to the 7 series. Is it purely price point? I tend to agree that Apple is sailing dangerously close to the fragmented lineup that defined Apple in the mid 90s that Steve Jobs and, let's remember, Tim Cook sought to rectify. I suppose the answer is that Apple makes so much of its revenue from iPhone sales that providing more choice is less of an issue than when the Mac lineup was similiarly expansive. I do think that having too much choice can be confusing to customers, particularly if the offerings are too similar.

I don't know about that . The battery life is said to be the same because of the new chip performance, but is smaller in mAH.

All 3 stores in Orlando have them available for pick up on 09/22. It'd be shocking if it wasn't so embarrassing.

Why is it embarrassing? The comments made when there isn't enough stock are all about being angry and complaining apple can't keep up with demand.

They have a launch where they can keep up with it and people thing it's stupid. What the hell?

Whaaaa? Apple didn’t sell out of pre-order inventory? That’s the first sign of the Apocalypse according to Nostradamus.
[doublepost=1505632651][/doublepost]I could only guess that many people are waiting for the iPhone X. The 8 and 8 Plus are just rebranded S models. The X is the new hotness!

How does this headline indicate slow sales??? You are all making your own narrative. Literally every iPhone has launch day inventory available at the stores for the past 10 years.

Hi,
Yes...but in the past, limited inventory and ship to dates usually have gone out weeks...not same day. I think that's the point.

I'm surprised the availability hasn't changed, but I guess people are either waiting for the X or simply meh about the new ones.

I'm on a 6. Looking to upgrade and just now sure. I want a plus, but they are pretty big.

Time will tell. I'm in no rush.

Cheers,
Brian

Because for 10 years they haven't been able to keep up with demand for their yearly release, whether its an 'S' cycle or not. The demand always exceeded their planned production amounts. Now, the anniversary year, they release a mediocre product thats widely criticized by the most dedicated fanbase, and the demand isn't there. They even sold the SIM free model on release day to boost sales totals, so they knew the demand would not be that strong and still can't "sell out". The store stock is still strong while shipping dates have slipped a little, so its reasonable to believe that people aren't even excited enough to go to a store to get it instead of waiting longer for delivery. Even here in Orlando where busses of tourists stop at the mall to buy suitcases full of electronics to send home, the stores are full of every option for pickup, and the pickup time has only shifted to 9am, from 8am.

I'm sure the demand for the X will exceed supply as usual and we'll complain about that and that's ok, because that's how it should be. It sucks for us, but is a good sign for the company.

Two premium-priced phones without the same tech as THE premium phone. Apple should've made two X's sizes and nothing more. Those devices are rather unnecessary...

I talked to many friends who prefer touchID for the way they use their phones and planned to get the 8.

The iPhone X is unnecessary but something Apple threw out there as the 10th anniversary edition that's not really ready for primetime. Face ID seems like a rush job to say they did it even though its at least a year away from being ready. If it wasn't for the fact that Apple needed a show stopper they would have held off.

Which would be fine if we didn't know heaven was just a mike down the road..while purgatory may be better than hell, many would toil a bit more for the heaven experience. I have a 7+ and can see absolutely no get an 8 anything when in about a month you have a BMW instead of a lambo.

The mobile carriers in the U.K. are still offering the 8 and 8 plus for delivery on launch day. I’m going for an X but it’s good to know there will likely be stock of the 8 plus if I don’t like the X in the 14 day return period. Coming from a 7 plus I’m a bit concerned about the battery life of the X and the size reduction. I previously tried a 7 and it was just too small. (I have been using Plus models since the 6)

its possible that they didn't earmark as much stock for preorders this year. lesson learned from last year maybe. or maybe the lesson learned is that they started production earlier to have more stock.

Ok. Does this get rid of all the conspiracies that every time apple launches a new phone they "create demand by having supply constraints"? No? Ok then

this is the 'apple is doomed' conspiracy
