Can somebody tell Tim that having your phone model listed in airlines device ban list is not called marketing?

Oh no.

This is much worse than exploding battery concerns.

This means Tim really thinks Apple's a mobile phone company.

It started with inferior Apple Maps (which in retrospect may not have been so bad, considering privacy concerns)

Then their superior processor (good move this time - the CPU/GPU is the heart of the device)

But modems? Batteries?? You've got to be kidding me.

Apple, why don't you resume making innovative products instead of trying to manufacture commodity phones in the cheapest way possible? (That's a rhetorical question Tim - it's a lack of imagination)

I honestly think the Apple Pencil is your best invention since Steve Jobs left us. And it's a great product. But it's a peripheral!

Before Tim, Apple was in the human-approachable technology business.

RIP Apple

Battery capacity for other companies = Huge batteries or one that go boom when they try to beat Apple on device size. Throttling is not required on Android phones because they don’t support updates on even 3 year old phones so, 4 years is definitely out of the question.

Bigger phones! I'm sure people would take phones that are imperceptibly bigger to have a much bigger battery.

Oh My, even joking, you guys must think that Apples high level people are idiots. I don't think this guy would be hired if he wasn't up to the job.

Are you saying the fairly stagnant area of rechargeable batteries isn't in need of innovation? Seems like some meaningful innovation can be quite impactful there way beyond mobile phones.

Given how many of their products run on lithium batteries, it makes sense to innovate in this area, rather than leave it to third parties. I am just surprised it took Apple this long.

I came here just to write a joke... but I see it has already been done!!!
I don’t wish to beat a dead horse so I’ll quietly exit before it gets too heated in here!

Yes and No. It would be great if they could innovate in this area, the trouble is Battery already operate at laser thin margin. The same question was asked when Tesla announced their GigaFactory Apple building its Factory won't save them much money. And battery testing and innovation takes years of work before production.

I think this is similar to Apple hiring LTE Modem expert, they are their to make sure everything works as advertised, and not blindly trusting their partners or suppliers. To actually make battery is something not of Apple's interest. And it is not like LG Chem, SDI are slowing innovation. If anything people are pouring money into Batteries.

Apple needs to figure out ways to bring down cost of Solid Battery, so hiring some experts may be a key into it.

P.S - That is assuming the status of current Apple, if they are really making cars it would be a different story.

Maybe this is a espionage trick by Samsung.
Let’s see what happens to future iPhone batteries...

I gather battery technology is still evolving, and really hasn’t moved that much forward with lithium ion in terms of ratings (Other than being more compact), I do look forward to when we can finally see new battery technology that allows for more longevity, as chip processors are becoming more powerful, consuming battery draw. Really, I think the biggest leap in technology would be the battery spectrum, because that’s what we rely so heavily on for our day-to-day usage with our devices.

It's all part of a master plan to guarantee planned obsolescence. Pairing a T2 chip with an exploding battery - what could possibly go wrong?

I wonder what Apple's goals are in their battery research. A foldable battery for a microLED iPhone? A lighter battery for an autonomous vehicle? A more recycleable battery?
