Teacher: So Timmy, what does your daddy do for a living?
Timmy: He's Global Head of Battery Developments
Teacher: What?! Sorry I asked
:p

So now our future phones have zero chance of lasting an entire day on a charge, and 100% chance of exploding.

Just out of curiosity, where does this come from?

I've moved to an S9 myself now, and I easily get 1 full day of battery life on performance mode. i'm not the heaviest of users. But I'm regularly unplugged all day and get from 7:30AM to 11pm with 30-45% battery remaining.

is it as good a battery life as the Xr for example? or even the iPhone Xs + with a much larger battery and device size? No. But this idea that the phones aren't lasting a day is ... about 10 years out of date.

Can't speak for their lower end models. I'd never buy one of samsungs lower end devices. but comments like yours makes me think you're just posting nonsense for the sake of posting nonsense.

Whatever they do, innovation when it comes to batteries should be a top priority for Apple and the rest of the industry.

I feel like overall battery tech is just the one tech that hasn't ever been able to keep up with what we actually want and do. no matter what device. 1 day life? we want more. 2 days? more! in reality, if we could go weeks on a charge, we'd probably still be asking why not months!

but the better battery tech, even if it feels slow to develop, the better and we should all be fore every company working on making better battss.

That's a fair point. I honestly would be pretty content with 2-3 days. For now, I just charge overnight which is good enough, but I would welcome any advancements. Battery tech today just feels so dated. I am surprised nothing more advanced has been developed.

well, we are getting more advanced and better batteries every iteration. The problem is, we're also getting more advanced and powerful devices that need more power. So we tend to make no real headwinds on battery life lengevity.

I would wager if you managed to put the battery that's in the Xr in a 2005 era phone, you'd have 2 weeks of battery life.
it's just that today we expect so much more out of our devices.

They will probably put timer this time (more innovative) to explode it after Apple care expires so that they will have more sales. :D

Hopefully this will bring Apple out of the Stone age as far as battery capacity and life without having to resort to secret throttling, dropping resolution down to near 720p or a bulky battery case.
A bit optimistic. But hopefully innovation in the long run will move the needle on making batteries less prone to issues in heat and cold and have less wear and tear associated with charging.

There has been exactly one robot phone that I've owned over the years that has been able to make it through a full day on a charge without curbing my usage habits or turning on battery saver (you know, exactly how I use my iPhone); and that's the Essential PH-1.

Every other device I've used has been in the red by lunchtime. Even if I would go so far as root, ROM, and Greenify, it'd barely get to the finish line. Frankly, you shouldn't have to go to such extremes just to only have to charge overnight.

Even my SE can pull that off, as did my X and as does my XS. The XS often barely crosses the 50% mark.

Sounds like you've got a very unique usage pattern. I'm curious how much you're on your phone, what the usage pattern is and stuff like display on time is. (not saying you should change, i'm just curious to know what sort of behaviour has run into such battery lengevity issues). I'm clearly not in that myself, but it sounds like you are an exception to the rule with how much you use it, compared to regular.

I wouldn't go so far as to suggest that I use at an addict level, but of all of the people I know IRL, I use my phone the most. On phones that I branded as 'not strong enough,' my SoT would typically be in the 2-3 hour range. I'd give you my XS numbers, but they're atypical; I'm trying out Apple's Battery Case currently, and also just had to redo my Apple ID causing me to have to redownload my music, so my numbers are off for that. My SoT is reporting almost 5.5 hours average over the last 10 days, though.

I've never seen the number 5 in the hours column on android.

I don't think I do anything out of the normal. No heavy GPS usage or screen being on unnecessarily, not much gaming (often none at all), mostly social media, texting, and photography.

Once explode...i’m sure it would help people break free from ecosystem. Lol ....(especially involving members here)

cool. awesome to get other peoples perspectives an experiences.

I typically only have 2.5-3.5 Onscreen time in my usage. i'm not really addicted to my phone and often leave it sitting for hours wwithout touching it. (i get notifications to watch, so i'll peek at em an decided if it's worth pulling out the device for, i just don't feel the need to respond instantly to everything. So i may go from time to time a few hours between bothering.

but then When i grab it, it'll be for 30-45 minutes at a time. plus GPS for the drive home for traffic. (1.5 hours a day). by 11ish, i'm at 30-35%.

Though, My SE had killer battery. I could on low use days, go 2 days between charges.

Now, is this the same guy that was responsible for the exploding Samsung phones ? Welcome to Apple,, may your stay be short lived.

I thought Apple were doing good... What can this guy do "better" ?

As long as this guy doesn’t design anything that gives Apple an excuse to make devices even thinner than they already are at the cost of the same paltry battery life, I’m sure he’ll be fine. But seriously Apple, let’s call it good on making the phones and laptops thinner and use those new efficiencies in silicon and battery tech to give us actual ALL DAY battery life...

Samsung Notes that exploded used two different battery supplies, Samsung SDI and another company separate from them called Amperex. Both supplied batteries resulted in failures. This would point to bad design of a single battery unit designed specifically for the Note or the phablet itself doing something improper causing excessive pressure on the battery packs.

The majority of bad batteries came from Amperex who went behind Samsung's back and used cheaper materials to insulate the batteries and general poor production values lead to what happened.

A poetry comes to my mind,
a piece by Baldrick from Black Adder, season 4.

If I remember correctly, it was something like this. ,, boom, boom, boom, boom, boom and boom.

Timeless war poetry

Ok, perhaps going by your usage I'd be considered addicted, lol.

There isn't an hour that goes by that I haven't picked it up. I've also trimmed my watch notifications so that the only ones going to it are important ones. I don't need to know that Dogfish Head Sea Quench Ale is available at another bar, thanks Untappd.

I have a wireless charging car mount (no CarPlay yet), so it does charge while I drive, especially if GPS is involved. My daily drives are more of a commute than a drive, so generally speaking I don't use Maps frequently.

I also had great experiences with the SE, though not 2 days, that's for sure.
