Taken with Nikon D5000 no editing done to either of these other than adding name in bottom corner via Illustrator and Photoshop.

The color on the first is great. It looks like sepia tone. The reflection on the second is really great too. Great timing on the light. My only thing is they both look to me to be very slightly rotated counter clockwise. Not sure. It could just be the way the shore lines fall away in both.

Alaska Inner Passage

Absolutely gorgeous picture. One thing I was wondering was whether it would be a better photo if you had included more water and less sky?

I think the Alaska photo is fantastic and makes my eye want to explore the edges of the picture and admire the great color transitions. More sky would detract from the great reflection going on in the water.

Great photo!

Looks like an awesome place for kids to visit. Love the safety vests. Your ISO was really high (3200) so it must have been pretty dim in there.

It was dark. The power plant is located inside a mountain and remotely operated. So there is not much use for lights, only when they do guided tours for tourists. And yes, the children loved it. Especially since it was a fully operational plant ( to quote the emperor in star wars...). 2 of the 3 turbines were running.

I remember you posting that Opera House in another thread. I still like it, it's an interesting new shot of the opera house.
And Tasmania is now definitely on my list of countries to visit

The Grand Canyon and the Alaska shot are beautiful. The color and the smoothness of the Alaska shot are outstanding. The Venetian shot doesn't float my boat (pun intended) but probably because you see it a lot. I'm jealous of your vacations, big time:)

Thanks JD!! I don't get to take vacations as often as I would like, but try to go big when I do :)

Thanks! I tried to get a couple with a higher horizon but the wake nearer the ship really disrupted the image.

Sure it's been done to death a billion times, but it was the first time I saw it. Took a picture of it with my dinky Casio Exilim Z750.

Camera Casio EX-Z750
Exposure 0.125 sec (1/8)

The Sydney Opera House is one of the most interesting buildings in the world, and this is a great photo of it. Nice work.

Love the textures here. The sky really accents the water and mountains well. Has a prehistoric look and feel to it.

Southern Tasmania, Australia

Another brilliant ocean sunset. This would make a great poster or desktop.

Interesting framing here. I almost suspected our local broken old building expert to have snuck in here posing as you.

Great photo from that little camera. I like the richness of the colors in this photo.

Nice photos from everyone. I envy you for your talent and wealth of experience. One of the things that I really like about the Net is the global community that is at my fingertips. You are all good citizens of planet MR.

The next discussion thread will open Wednesday, Pacific time. Start thinking of topics for the next round of photos.

Pretty close to the challenge period...

My vacation this summer consisted of me driving to Tucumcari, NM to spend a night in the famous and historic Route 66 classic: Blue Swallow Motel.

Here's one from that stay.

Very nice night/evening shots. Route 66 must be a great photo drive. Thanks.

Martha's Vineyard:

Great sunsets! Martha's Vineyard is a great place to visit. I was on Nantucket Island for a few days the week they released the original Jaws. A night walk on the beach was an experience.

Nice photos from all.
