Microsoft today announced that Fortnite is available through its Xbox Cloud Gaming service, which means iPhone and iPad users can play Fortnite for free with just a Microsoft account.

Fortnite is the first free-to-play game that has been aded to Xbox Cloud Gaming, which is still available in a beta capacity. Xbox Cloud Gaming is available in 26 countries and Fortnite can be played on Android smartphones and tablets, and Windows PCs in addition to iPhones and iPads.

Nothing needs to be installed since Xbox Cloud Gaming is browser-based over-the-air gaming, and there is no membership required because Fortnite is free. The game supports native touch controls or a connected controller.

With Fortnite available via Xbox Cloud Gaming, iPhone and iPad users who have not been able to play Fortnite on their mobile devices since the game was pulled from the App Store will once again be able to get access.

Cloud-based gaming service GeForce NOW has also been beta testing Fortnite support on iPhones and iPads, but Fortnite on GeForce NOW is only available in a closed beta. Fortnite through Xbox Cloud Gaming is available to anyone with a Microsoft account.

Apple has no plans to allow Fortnite back into the App Store while its legal battle with Epic Games is ongoing, so cloud-based gaming is the only way to access the popular battle royale game on iOS devices.

I think Microsoft acquired Activision to arm its silos against Apple's iOS platform. If you own all the IP your making 70% while Apple is making 30%. Also might help Microsoft get a sweetheart deal like Google, Amazon and Netflix have with Apple.

Being that Fortnite is a competitive online multiplayer game, I can't imagine that cloud services are an acceptable way to play. Has anyone tried this service?
I play via GeForce Now, works perfectly well with a good connection. Sure, I don’t compete, I play with my son. But I have no problems getting kills or wins. But then I’ve been gaming for four decades now, so I can cope with some minor lag. ?

I don’t get all the hate for Epic games. It’s a fun game, it’s free. The over $100 million they sent to different charity groups and UN reliefs in April, that’s pretty insane really.

Doing some good doesn’t excuse them trying to destroy tens of thousands of small businesses that want to sell games and apps. You aren’t on the receiving end of their plans so you like many others can just play games and have fun. Though I’ll add, just because the company is bad, if you enjoy the game then play it without a second thought. Many fantastic things are created by rather nasty people.

lol cloud gaming is still nowhere near what it needs to be for competitive FPS. Maybe if you want to play a campaign, but any kind of online play will suffer from the latency.

This sounds so inefficient, wasting tons of data to run a game on a remote system when you can just run it on your device.

It's just downright insulting to my computer nerd brain.

No matter what people say Cloud Gaming is the future. Hardware will be a thing of the past. The fact that Apple doesn’t allow game streaming apps on their platform is the lamest thing I’ve ever seen. All because of their Apple Arcade.

If they add more games to Xbox Cloud this benefits both iOS and Mac users. Play any Xbox or PC game anytime any Mac, any iPad, etc. I don’t get why people are fussy about it. ?‍♂️

cloud gaming will be the future.
aw hell no. I want videogames to go back to single player on devices experience with low lag, no skips and no dependency on internet to even start a game. I dont want to play in a toxicity of multiplayer content. that should be a seperate content but i hope to God its not the future of gaming because gaming was always about immersion into characters not playing randoms online for a quick release

Not sure what are you try to convey with your pathetic capitalization and message. But the facts that Microsoft had to design Xbox On the Cloud to work in a browser as opposed to an App, and that Fortnite is the first Free to Play game in the service are direct responses to Apple policies. They both had to work around them. Making it available through a browser makes it harder for Apple to work as the solution would be to cripple Safari and the WebKit implementation on iOS.

are you self admitting to be a troll by calling it "pathetic"?

Uhhh why is it inefficient? Maybe we should continue downloading movies right and then play them on a proprietary DVD player. The future is for any device to be a console.

No, just pointing out that's capitalization 13 years old use in social networks when others state facts that's not true. Here the point you're making is not something that "trolls" would do, but the reality is that Apple has indeed banned GamePass / xbox in the cloud as a video game service from their devices. That's not a troll´s point. It is an actual fact.
