This is an excellent point.

If the high percentages Apple charges are of such value to developers, they obviously would choose that path even if given other options.

A healthy market in action.
Developers choosing a more expensive distribution path due to the benefits it offers them.

Sounds like a good argument for opening up other closed platforms like the Nintendo switch and PS5. If 30% was good value for developers releasing games for the switch, then Nintendo should have no qualms about allowing other app stores which can host apps and charge developers a (potentially lower) cut as well.

What more with switch 2 titles reportedly costing $80 or even $90.

😲

This can't be right. Based remarks from Apple apologists on this forum, Fortnite's time was done and it is no longer relevant.

It is a shame that Apple is so petty they still won't allow the game in other regions; they literally do the minimum required by law/court order.
Honestly if the courts forced me to allow a client to continue using my services without paying even though the client signed a contract that they then blatantly and purposefully broke with the sole purpose of playing the victim and pretending me upholding my end of the contract and expecting them to do the same was somehow unfair or unjust then I'd be as petty as I possibly could and do the absolute bare minimum I could within the order too. And you can also bet I'd be appealing just as Apple is.

Well that’s sounds like a competitive advantage. Perhaps Microsoft will put Steam on it🤔

We are in interesting times
I’m told Microsoft is still in the early stages of this Xbox app update, so the company might never ship the feature to list all your Steam games, but this mocked up image shows how they might show up eventually. Xbox chief Phil Spencer has also previously hinted that PC stores like Epic Games Store and Itch.io could one day arrive on Xbox consoles.

I hope this 2025 chart helps you understand the typical age of players.

A 2025 Chart? Fortnite hasn't been on iOS (or any other Apple product) since 2021. So what you are showing is pointless with regard to those who use the iOS platform. Also, when providing information like this, it's appropriate to provide the source for verification. And if this is a legit chart, provided by Epic, (as only they could access accurate statistics), it could not disprove my remark, as it wouldn't include those under the age of 18, for obvious legal reasons, but as we all know, underage gamers are a very large percentage.

Well I disagree, many users are actually playing and purchasing, Epic is making money that people like or not.
You can disagree, but as the app is free, on the Apple App Store, you, or I, have no ability, to ascertain, how many 'purchases' have been made as of this week! The comment that Epic are making more money now, will be accurate, because if one person bought something, it would make it so. An app becomes popular on the App Store, not by purchases or downloads, but also by traffic.

Well, you statement did basically say Fortnite was only of interest to 5 year olds.

Someone posted:
"Yes no doubt it is one of the best games and it truly deserves to be at the first."

And in reply you said:
"If you're 5 years old, maybe..."

A throwaway silly comment which is incorrect.
And I'm sure you know that in all honesty ;)

Agree about links to sources, but rather than me picking just one specific one, a quick search engine question asking about "Fortnite" demographics will give you all the information, for this and all past years.

I know the game is not only of interest to 5 year olds, and I know you know it also :)
But if someone posts a comment like that about it being only interesting if you are 5, then people are going to point out that's totally incorrect....

Most sites generally agree with the age rages and feels about what you'd expect for that type of game.
Not only 5 year olds ;)

Hardly a silly comment, flippant yes. But then you, as others have done, have taken the literal meaning to be someone actually 5 years old.

Lets be fair here.
If you say 5 years old, and comment on you saying 5 years old, you can hardly blame me.

I wish to be accurate with regards to what others say.

However I will admit, you now seem to have dug a deeper hole for yourself.

So now you are stating in your opinion people who play games such as Fortnite have the mental age of a 5 year old.

I'll admit I'd never say or suggest such a thing and insult literally million of people.

They are maintaining the platform and the infrastructure. That costs money.
I believe I heard in the news that years ago Craig Federiki suggested Apple should be happy with 1 billion in profit from the app store.
And, back then in the early days he said Apple could simply be happy with the 1 billion profit figure.
Then as the years go by and the app store grows, Apple could gradually reduce and reduce the original 30% charge, to maintain the 1 billion in profit.
That way Apple keeps getting a nice 1 Billion each year in profit, whilst the cut the Devs pay to apple drops lower and lower.

I will admit that sounds a very fair deal for both sides and no-one would have a problem with this, and Apple would not be in the mess it's now in, due to people at the very top simply being greedy for every cent they can squeeze out of its users

Didn’t Fortnite host a Metallica concert in 2024?

I don’t think there’s a lot of five year olds blasting Master of Puppets between episodes of Miss Rachel.

Remember, the poster who said 5 year olds are the ones playing Fortnite.
They said they did not actually mean 5 year olds.

They corrected their post and explained that what they meant was they feel the people who play these games have the mental age of a 5 year old!

IMHO pretty insulting :(

I wonder what will happen if the judge subsequently overturns the decision to allow third party payments on iOS. Does Epic play ball, or do we get a repeat of 2020 all over again?

I really don't understand how a few people seem to think.
Surely as consumers, and people who spend our money to buy something we then own.
We should all want what's best for us consumers.

No one should be standing up for a multi trillion dollar company, and putting them and their drive for more profits ahead of us, the consumers.

The condition known as "Stockholm syndrome" feels like the nearest thing I can equate this to.

If you told someone from years ago, you would pay a LOT of money for a product and then not be allowed to use it in anyway you want or do with it anyway you want, you'd think this was crazy.

If you "Rented" the product, then fine, it's not yours. the company still owns the product and you are borrowing it for a small monthly? fee.

But buying something outright, it's yours.
