Remember when Doctor Q called himself "Brew"? I think it was in the
geek thread.

Well, look at the profile of member "Brew" over at vbulletin:

Doctor Q joined MacRumors the same day Brew joined vBulletin: 19 Sept 2002!

We already know that Doctor Q is a programmer, and Brew's title at
vBulletin is "coder". And in this thread:

he's apparently talking about breaking into vBulletin.

I get the password box and am able to login to the thread but if I try
to post a reply or start a new thread I get this:

I think it's quite disturbing that he's not a contributor... making his a Demi-God-Less Moderator. :confused:
 
Quite controversial, I'm sure some people are not feeling very happy right now about this whole issue.

So did he really hack the forums?

I'm a bit surprised if he did, since he would have been the last person I would have suspected.

Well, you'll have to wait to see if his account gets reactivated by the mods first...

there is something seriously weird going on at the forums today... :confused:
 
It seems he did hack in. He used the "PHP gate" flaw in the vBulletin candidate release. It's a buffer overflow.

This is serious...:mad:
 
wow, that seems so out of character for him...he did so much work setting up the photo directory, and often had constructive things to say...

All I can say is wow, again. :(

Dr. Q couldn't be continuing to abuse powers he doesn't have, using a new account, could he? That be really uncool.
 
This is an intensely interesting thread, by the way ;) -- seems weird that someone with over 3000 posts would "risk it all" by hacking the forum, though -- you sure it's not a very elaborate April Fool's? Or could someone have hacked the Dr.'s L/P, or be spoofing his IP (if the security alerts are all from his IP range)? Of course, maybe he really did snap because Apple's taking so long to update their pro hardware :cool:. That's basically the main reason I'm here, I guess -- but I plan on sticking around after updates :D

Okay feel free to delete this post, now...

To everyone: No, I'm not banned and I didn't hack into MacRumors. I became a moderator earlier in the month, with the full permission of arn and the moderators. I hope you enjoyed our elaborate April Fool's Day surprise! Quite a performance by our moderators, don't you think?

I'm actually a "mini-moderator", a moderator with a forum-specific assignment. I'm in charge of keeping an eye on the Community Discussion forum, although I can help the other mods where necessary. I hope you'll all help me do my new job by following the rules without my help. Thanks!
