I was rewarded with a nice "Thank You" and a good feeling knowing the mother was able to return the iPod to her 13 year old daughter.

Life is not all about money - hopefully you will realize that some day.

Well, reimbursing a person for gas if they had a long drive would be nice - and a classy gesture at least (consider what replacing it would cost). Those Apple stores aren't exactly on every corner. I'd have like a 40 mile one way trip to one.

Yes I've seen quite a bit of phones on eBay that are iCloud locked.

That's why you should get those who say they're on iOS 6. If a phone is too cheap, it's either not working (for parts), or working but iCloud locked (and again, you can only use it for parts except the logic board).

Where you rewarded.
I don't mind doing it just won't spend money to go all the way just to return it.

Will do it when I'm around there then[/QUOTE]

If a sincere "Thank you" is not good enough for you, then throw it away, not try to take advantage of it. It simply does NOT belong to you and making your way to use it somehow is no different from stealing it.

Nope... Under common law, the finder of lost property could keep the item as long as the true owner comes forward. If for a reasonable period of time that true owner did not comes forward, the finder could claim as the item is his/her.

Ignore the other posters. They're just jealous because you found an iPod touch and they didn't. Finders keepers, losers weepers.

It's actually really easy to bypass the activation lock. There's a bug in iOS 7 and 7.1 that lets you switch off Find My iPhone without entering the password. Then, you can easily wipe it. But since you already tried to wipe the iPod touch, it's too late. You can't do this now because you can't get to the Settings app.

You might be able to sell it for spare parts on eBay.

My jaw is wide open right now. Is this a serious post?

Yeah, everyone is jealous instead of just being decent human beings.

But apparently in his original post, the OP showed no intentions of even attempting to find its true owner and that I just wanted to point out.

I should imagine that in at least 7 cases out of 10, someone who can't access a phone/tablet/iPod/whatever will just toss it in the trash. Very few people will hand it in to Apple. Therefore the owner loses out and so too does the finder/thief.

I don't know about you guys but if I lose something, or it is stolen, I gain zero satisfaction from knowing that whoever found it/stole it can't use it either. Once it's gone it's gone, and someone else may as well get some use out of it!

Even if it's stolen? Why would anyone want someone else to make any use of anything they paid good money for and now have to pay more good money to replace, especially if it's stolen?

Haven't gotten the time yet with school and work it leaves no time. unless i call in sick from work or school just to return it. Very Stupid idc. Never doing that.

Funny the responses from this post. With or Without iOS 7 i won't need it so like i said when i get time i would return it.

Then again a part of me was thinking of keeping it. If i have it to work it could be fun messing around with iOS 8 beta

Why do people not tape a post-it behind their phone (if you use a case) that has your name and phone number if found? Then if you get an honest person they will call.

Greatest response ever. You are pure class. My hat is off to you.

This is sort of off topic, but what if you purposely wanted to give your iOS device to someone? Would there be a way to disable that screen?

Here is one iOS 7 bug: http://9to5mac.com/2014/04/03/ios-7-bug-allows-anyone-to-disable-find-my-iphone-and-bypass-activation-lock-without-a-password/

That only works without a passcode anyway. iOS 7 is annoying in some ways, but at least it can defer people from stealing. (Not at anyone in particular btw)

That only works if they have a home phone, which a lot of people do not. I only have one phone number - my iPhone.

Try taking it to Apple Store, I found an iPod 5 and they assisted me returning it to the owner.

I found an iPod once and the Apple Store told me I had to take it to the police. So I looked at some of the pics on it turned out I new the owner of the iPod lol.
