Found fingerprints on USB cable when I first opened my new iPhone - is it really new?

OMG, Alert the media! There's a finger print on my cable!!!

Lol:D
No matter how much you try to argue your flawed logic doesn't make any sense.
White glove treatment:D
Nothing flawed there. Just a different level of what people would find acceptable for themselves or not, which is more subjective than objective, but not exactly right or wrong one way or another.

I'm with him ^^ although I do understand your concern that it may have been opened by the wrong person somewhere along the way, at the end of the day its only a fingerprint and a bit of dust.

Consider yourself lucky you can afford to buy the latest iphone, I'm still rocking my iphone 4 :p

Me too except I'm not really rocking my iPhone 4 more like yelling at it every 5 minutes for being slow.

Finger print on the plastic that wraps the cord on my charger when I took my phone out of the heat shrinked box.

Should I take it back? Conspiracy by the govnt? Did the NSA grab my phone in transit and bug it? OMG!!!!!

Seriously dude. Its a freaking fingerprint. Is China known to have great examples of manufacturing process all the sudden and I missed out on that memo?

Should he take it back?

Possibly, it's personal preference and he has to weigh up how much it's going to worry him against his much hassle it will be for him to return it. Fingerprint is a reasonable indicator that the box could have been opened since packaging and therefore the phone may have been used. It's up to the OP to decide how likely that is but makes sense that they're seeking advice on here.

Gov conspiracy?

Almost certainly not. I don't think the OP is suggesting that either.

Bugged by NSA?

As above.

Yes but not particularly suddenly and no, you haven't missed any memos.

"I've found a fingerprint on my cable"... First world problems eh? Do people really return goods for something as insignificant as this really? No wonder shops put prices up with type of time wasting.

Unless the phone is defective then its not even worth the effort driving back to the shop. People in factories do not have their fingerprints ground off so its to be expected every once in a while.

Not really. In third world they have problems like lack of basic human needs.

More of a first world problem. But the OP (presumably) lives in the first world so it makes sense. It would be weird if they went about their life concerning themselves with nothing other than whether they could find food or clean water.

Yeah I changed the typo, you know what I meant.

My second paragraph still applies. Nothing wrong with having first world problems when you live in the first world. It's like a teenager berating another teenager for having "young peoples problems"

If you live in the 'first world' the problems you experience are going to be relative to your society and the environment you live in aren't they? Clean water and food doesn't even apply here and is something you decided to discuss from what I can tell. It doesn't mean someone like myself cannot express an opinion on whether this particular issue a person has with a product is silly or not. The OP might feel they need a replacement due to a fingerprint and if so, so be it. Its not something you can really ask advice on because its a subjective preference. If I received my iPhone and the internal packaging was damaged, I may be inclined to seek reassurance from Apple that I have a genuine new product. A fingerprint is just a rare manufacturing/packaging issue. Most electrical products will have evident of human interaction and it wouldn't be the first time I have spotted a fingerprint on an internal component.

I agree. I buy a new product and I'm "entitled" to get a pristine product..no matter where the product was manufactured.

I buy a new car, I'm "entitled" to a car free of dings and minor sample defects. The car probably would run fine with them....I am entitled to get a car in pristine condition.

Carry on about entitlements gents.:p

You prove my point!

I guess you expect your wife to be virgin. What about you, are you perfect in every way?

Of course we are entitled to the best service known to man kind with many of the things we buy. We are also entitled to fall over in the street and seek compensation from whoever laid the pavement because that is the world we live in today and we are owed everything. When I had my last iPhone there was a snag in the cellophane where the packaging had rubbered against another. I should have really exchanged it there and then as perfection is what we pay for. Where there is blame, there's a claim as they say! :)

get what you paid for

I would return it. With the cost of a iPhone at 800.00 I would make sure it was spotless. A new phone should be spotless.
