We need to just take his word for it and try to forget this :D

Done

Look all I'm doing is trying to find the owner of the iPad, no need to constantly try to hint that I'm trying to take the iPad. I wouldn't be trying every avenue as well as going to a public forum to see what I can do to find the owner if I was just wanting to keep it. So if you have some advice on what to do to find the owner then feel free to share it, if not then please just keep your opinion to yourself.

Trying to do the right thing by returning it, that's it.

It wouldn't be a "Found iDevice" thread on macrumors without at least one accusation of theft.

OP, as with any dealings with a large company where you are seeking satisfaction, just keep the pressure on and send it as high up the flagpole as possible. Call the local branch of the airline, not a toll free number, and ask to speak to a supervisor. Explain that you want to get the ipad back to the owner, but you are not willing to just hand it to a wage worker at a desk and hope for the best. You want to be actively involved in getting it back to the owner. Give them your contact info and flight info and demand a follow up.

It's stories like this that make me want to get the LTE version of the Mini Retina so I can always connect to it to find it easily with GPS.

Unless you put it in airplane mode, which is likely what the owner of that iPad did, LOL.

Anyway, I don't know why some of you are piling on the OP - it sounds like he tried to do the right thing and the idiots working for the airline wanted nothing to do with it. If the OP just wanted to keep the iPad, there's no reason he would have needed to post here.

The Craigslist thing might not be a bad idea. Other than that, I think the OP has put forth an honest effort - more than most people would do - and if nothing comes of his time and effort, then he should be entitled to keep it.

Of course, if it's locked down with iOS 7's Find my iPad, then it's essentially a brick since a factory reset/DFU will do nothing to clear it.

The OP made things worse by removing it from the place it was lost. And Sorry, but I'm not buying this, "there's no lost and found department" at an airline terminal. This kind of crap happens daily and they do indeed have a process for it.

I just think somebody tried to overkill this situation with too much kindness and now it's a mess.

Made things worse how? If he didn't take it some one else would have. They may or may not have been as willing to attempt to do the right thing as the OP.

OP, ignore the usual judgemental suspicious idiots in this thread. You've tried what you can. If it's not running ios7 I'd DFU restore it and keep it.

You want to get this resolved? Tweet the airline with the situation....I have found that Twitter is the source of much greater customer service than any phone line at large companies....let us know how it goes...good luck.

All I know is had I left my iPad on a plane I would be calling that airline to find it.

If you think airlines care about their passengers you haven't flown for a while. :)

In all seriousness, I believe the OP. Airline staff are overworked and underpaid. The last thing they need is extra work trying to match up lost property with careless owners. It's really NOT their job. The golden age of flying is over. The only folks who might care about the passengers now-days are ....

the other passengers!

So the OP is the only honest person in the universe? And all flight attendants are crooks?

Poor iPad owner. Contacted the airline and they don't have it.

Mx356, is it a white iPad? I left mine on a flight last night from Chicago to Minnesota. Went to the airport today in the morning. They didn't find it. I know the plane has since then gone to Denver and back to Minnesota.

Please email if you believe it's mine. jjperez@me.com

I would take to the Sheriffs Dept. or local Pd within that jurisdiction. Take it to them before they come to you.

Johnny, this happened on Oct 31. Wish it was your though. What airline where you on?

Good luck with your search

Sounds like you read WAY into what I said. I never said he was the ONLY honest person. Further more, ALL flight attendants are not crooks, my mom happens to be one who isn't a crook.

ONLY and ALL were not in my post. Thanks for playing!

If you really want to get it back to the owner, asking Siri for the owners contact info is the only way with a passcode on it (that I can think of). Now obviously Siri needs an internet connection and with a passcode on it, it'll be hard to connect to one. So try this: at home, unprotect your wifi and name the network "AT&T Wireless" (or whatever Starbucks names their wifi, someone chime in if that name is wrong). The reason for this is that Apple has a wifi agreement with Starbucks and it should automatically connect to your wifi as it sees it as a Starbucks hotspot. I haven't tried this myself, but its the only way I can think of to get it connected to the internet if its a wifi only iPad.

Good for you in trying to do the right thing and not leave it in the hands of someone irresponsible who would probably just take it for the own personal use.

It says Siri is not available since its not connected to the wifi.

Long shot... Take it to a Starbucks and see if it automatically connects to their wifi, if it does, ask Siri who am I.

Does the engraving by chance give any hint at what a password could be, or a possible business name, etc?

I think the OP already said that Siri was disabled. However, if I am wrong then you could probably just take it in to a Starbucks instead of messing with your own network.

I can't remember if I have had to "agree" to any terms on the screen when getting on to Starbucks wifi.

Extremely long shot but how about putting a tweet on Twitter stating you found an iPad, the flight number, the iPad model found, and ask if the person who lost it could provide the unlock code to prove it's their device.

If, and it's a long shot, the person sees the tweet and gets in touch then you could arrange to return it. Put the flight number, lost iPad, etc in hashtags.

Or try to connect to WiFi and see if Siri answers the "who am I" question. The owner will, rightly, perhaps ask why you removed it from the plane to begin with. If left on the plane the staff would have handed it into lost property surely?

I think the OP couldnt use Siri because it didnt have an internet connection, not that it was disabled. But, yes, simply going to Starbucks should get you automatically connected to a wifi hotspot without being prompted. I always like to make things more complicated than they have to be...:D
