Sorry, but this sounds like bull to me, just an excuse to keep someone else's property.

Most of us would, but imagine how you would feel if someone actually made the effort to track you down and return your iPod?

I found someone's phone on a park bench I was passing a few months ago. I picked it up, rang the last couple of dialled numbers, spoke to a friend of the owner, got their number, rang them, arranged to meet them, and returned their phone. The saddest thing was he said "how much do you want?". I said "err, nothing". He was gobsmacked. He thanked me like I was Mother Teresa . Jeez, I just did what was right, it was no big effort, I wasn't expecting an audience with the Pope in return or a ticker-tape parade through Dublin. A tiny 'effort' on my part, it took all of 10 minutes out of my day, but it made the owner of the phone feel like the world wasn't as scummy as he imagined.

So, do the right thing ;)

Awwww.
That's so cute.
Yeah. Try your best to return it.
Is there any way to get inside the iPod's memory without the passcode?
I haven't tried, but do the processes run when it's locked?
If they run, you could try SSH, perhaps it's jailbroken.:D
But yeah, be a good person, and restore the Owner's faith in humanity.

If there is a way to find out who it belongs to and you don't do it, and you later get caught with it (at least in Oklahoma) you can pick up either a misdemeanor or felony charge, depending on the value of the item.

I'd at least call the police, make an incident report, put a few fliers out where you found it, and put something on craigslist. Track and document everything you did fo find the lawful owner.

If anyone claims it, they can unlock the touch if they're the real owner. You could then ask them to reimburse you for whatever you spent to locate them.

Hello, my friend just lost his ipod touch in the snow this weekend. I was wondering where you found it and if there would be any chance you could return it since there is a password lock on it. Was it behind the O.P. Thanks

yay!

i really hope this "newbie" didnt actually sign up and think this would work, but hey, its worth a shot... a year later.

Restore it and be happy to own an iPod Touch.

I found a $20 dollar bill in the middle of a huge grassy field one time. I did not feel bad about keeping it. As they say, "Finders keepers".

Thank you so much for stating this. Something as small as an iPod can mean so much to a person. I myself have misplaced my iPod touch that was given to me as a birthday present. I use it for so many things...especially for my two toddlers when we're in boring places like a restaurant or airplane(which is where i last saw mine). I was in so flustered in trying to get my 2 boys out of the airplane (we were the last ones off) that I could have swore i put mine back in the carry-on, but i didn't. I think it fell in the seat or underneath.

Long story short "No one has seen it"...I'm very sad that the one person who decided to keep it had to be a dishonest one instead of the one who did the right thing.

Although i still have a bit of hope that there's a possibility of it still being on the airplane between seats or something and I hope an honest person picks it up and does the right thing (I posted it in the Denver Lost and Found)

Sad in Colorado :(

Jennifer,

I have one question for you, is your iPod touch password protected and which email address do you have setup on it? Please respond to this asap..

Thanks,
Priyavadan

Agh...this thread got necro'd by one donny95 about a week ago. It's a year old. Let it die in peace...

Return It

Do the right thing!
how would you like it if you bought something for $250 then if you lose it the finder makes no effort to return it!:apple: :apple:

the way to return it is by calling apple support at 1-800-apl-care and say i found a ipod ##### is the serial # and i need to find out how to contact the owner.

...I used to find cell phones in the restaurant I managed all the time... actually had a couple people get mad at me that I used their phone to call the last number dialed trying to get the phones back to them and wanted me to pay the charges when the bills came due:eek:...

Some people clearly don't look at the date on posts.

Also, I'm aware that I'm adding to the problem by replying, thus keeping this thread at the top.

Yo, original poster. Let us know what you actually did a year ago.

A dumb@ss friend of mine bought an ipod a couple of years ago. He knew it was stolen. When he plugged it in to his pc, it "froze up." Brought it to an apple store. Called him up later, said it had been registered as stolen. The store asked him to "do the right thing" and leave it for the rightful owner. I imagine there is a similar process for the touch. Of course, I'm too lazy to read past the first page of this post, but did you call an apple store? They would probably be more helpful than a cop. I think about that scene from the Big Lebowski when he asks if the cops are going to dust his stolen car for fingerprints and the cops laughs, Yeah! We're going to put our best men on the case. HAHAHAHAHAH!
OOPS. Just read the previous post. DOH.

I am disguested at people like you. The first thing that should come to your mind should be to return it. Not to break the password and keep it to use. If someone stole my touch and I found the person who intentionally did it; i'd break their face- literally. (Let's hope you don't steal mine).

Look in the mirror- aren't you ashamed? Freak.

Man,

This thread did however make me a tad happy of how many people wanted him to return it :) Makes you think that theirs still some good left in the world!

dude one of the best way if you plan on keeping it like i did with the one i found is plug it in and hold the power and home key to do a hard shut down then when the screen goes black let go of the power and not the home and when the apple comes up let go of the home key and do it when its plugged in then restore it

Another resurrection!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! WOW!!!!!! this is becoming the trend! this thread is 2 years old!

ipod touch

I myself found an ipod touch while outta town at a rest area... Tried to find owner but with no luck!!! It has a passcode that i cant get into and it just seems a waste to just throw it away...... WHAT TO DO?

ANOTHER RESURRECTION

THIS THREAD IS AMAZING

- Just put up some flyers and see what you can do

Apple needs to implement an "Owner Info" button onto the lock screen. You find the lost device, tap the button, see the information the actual owner has put there, like name, email, phone, etc. And you can actually have a good chance of returning it...

Cant apple track the person down by the seriel code? or if they didnt buy from that then try bestbuy or target etc.....

I used to work at an Apple store so i know exactly how to restore a passcode protected iPod touch, but you should really look to find the owner first, tell the police and go from there.

Always go through the legal channels. It's the right thing to do

Wow... only 20 minutes from when I last posted and another guy is trying to tell the dude that found the iPod to turn it in?

Resurrection.

So, tell us three years later, what did you ever DO with the iPod? We're curious. Spill.

Lol!

:D Three days ago (Dec 19, 2010) I found an IPOD in the snow. (Really) I put up posters in the neighborhood on street signs, speed limit signs and community mail boxes. So far no response. Contacted Apple:apple:, they said they can't help:eek:. Haven't turned it into police, (yet) and can't open it (password protected).

So I googled - FOUND IPOD TOUCH and found this thread.;)

For those who said, LET THIS THREAD DIE! I say, keep it alive - it may not help but at least it gives you a big heads up -

DON'T LOSE YOUR IPOD!
