WTF?!? VGA adaptor costs twice as much as before? :(

And instead of a USB+SD camera kit for $29 its now two individual cables for $29/ea. Ugh. Couldnt they just combine the two into one product? (Answer: Yes, but this way makes it easier to lose and rebuy)

Not forgotten but fair enough. Consistency across their flagship products.

Perhaps. I guess though this rumor confirms that even if they revise the iPad 3, it will be a minor revision. There has been rumors about better display, better battery life, etc... It looks like instead they are simply going to ship the iPad with the new doc connector and a bigger power supply.

The 4th generation iPad will probably the one with better camera, thinner, better display, better processor and lighter.

I hope the SD and USB adapters work with the iPhone 5. I'd love to be able to pull the SD card out of my Powershot S90, pop it into the adapter and use my phone to put photos online. I usually have my phone on me, whereas my iPad is not always with me, especially when I'm out adventuring taking photos.

I thought Sg was all high tech and has all the latest.;)

I find it odd that Apple even get such an adapter out on the market while they themselves have dropped it what, 10+ years ago on their Macs.

Won't make a lot of difference, from 10 Watt to 12 Watt, so ~20% faster.

My guess is that the VGA adapter still gets a bunch of use with legacy projector systems without HDMI. Still, I agree that it is becoming more obsolete over time.

I do wonder if the ipad 3 with dock connector will even charge faster with the 12 watt adapter, or if it will only charge faster with a lightning equipped product?

Does using the latest dock connected iphone with the 10 watt Pad charger charge faster than the 5 watt included adapter?

I hope those Lightening to USB / SD adapters work on the iPhone. There's no excuse why the old iPad connection kit couldn't have worked on the iPhone 4, I would have loved to download photos from my SD card to my iPhone.

Let's hope this time they don't work on just the iPad. But ouch! $29 for ONE adapter? Last time wasn't it about $30 for both adapters? :(

My 4S charges MUCH faster with an iPad adapter. Actually, I use it to charge my Mophie battery case and it charges much faster via the iPad adapter. I would image the iPhone 5 would see the same benefit.

Lightning Camera Kit won't matter as it will probably be rendered all but useless by an Apple software update in the not-so-distant future making it a complete and total waste of time and money.

Not that I'm bitter or anything.

"The connected USB device requires too much power.":mad::mad:

Good to know, BUT, be careful charging other devices, my girlfriend mobile phone cable got problems twice when using a 1 Amp charger, these were cheap cables though.(And a cheap chinese phone;) )

Thanks! No cheap Chinese phones for me, only expensive ones . I haven't had any issues. Heck I even use it to charge my Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 7"(Geez, can these companies come up with shorter names already?)

Apple also shows on their store page all the devices that are compatible with the 10W adapter. Pretty much anything with a USB cable you can plug into it will benefit.

Of course, the store is down right now. Wonder why...

Also, Asus has software that will increase power output to your USB ports on your PC when you have an Apple product plugged in to speed up charging.

The 13-inch non-Retina MacBook Pro uses a 60-watt adapter with the original MagSafe connector, so this new adapter will add a MagSafe 2 compatible adapter at that wattage to the lineup.

I really have no experience in this area, but does a 60-watt power adapter mean that the 13 inch rMBR will probably retain its dual core processor? Or does it just mean the battery is a little bit smaller and doesn't require as much juice?

I noticed that. Same with the camera kit. Which makes me hope that those numbers aren't US dollars and that's why it looks jacked up. I mean I love my camera kit but it's not worth $60 even with lightning

In a few months when everything is no longer using the Dock Connector we'll stop talking about it and enjoy the tiny little Lighting connector that I love so far.

That will only be true if they stop selling the iphone 4/4s etc. Until those items are out of the market and are beyond all legal support requirements in all areas, we'll still have the 30 pin stuff around.

I get the 20% greater output, although that mathematically equates to 83% time if you make linear assumptions (inverse of 1.2x, or 10/12)

My query was more due to the charging NOT being linear; something like fast charge for the first part, slowing to a trickle at the end. I don't know the capabilities of the charging circuitry - for all I know it won't make any difference, or perhaps for only the first quarter or so ending up needing ~95% of the time anyway.

Placebo effect. iPhone 4S draws slightly above 5w at peak charging. The battery case, no idea.

iPad 3 only draws slightly above 10w at peak so the new charger is apparently only going to benefit the updated iPad (unless a firmware update can increase current draw during charging--but I doubt it).

Which somewhat answers my question; Makes little or no difference to iPad3 charging time (as the current 10W rated charger will be able to provide slightly more than 10W anyway)
Oh well... :(

I don't see the Lightning to SD card adapter in the store. I too am hoping that it works with the iPhone 5 (same specs as the 4th gen iPad).

I'm a photographer and currently I use an Eye-Fi but damn that thing is the most unreliable piece of electronics that I've ever used. It works when it feels like it! So a hard connection Lightning to SD is all I'm asking for.

I wonder if the 12W will still be compatible with the 30 pin iPad 3.

B

Yes, stating "12W" is, in layman's terms "the amount of juice this thing can provide" i used the word provide, because the device will only draw what it needs, for example an iPhone would still probably only draw around 5W. They are all smart little devices, and will moderate the current :)
This is probably apples response to slow charging times in the 3rd gen iPad, the power adapter wasn't really enough for a battery size like that, especially when using the iPad at the same time!

same, it seems like everyone is basing their idea that they are releasing one off the same recycled "leak". Did they even mention it in the presentation do you know?
cheers.

They were mentioned in the keynote and they're on the iPad's accessories page but the link doesn't go anywhere.

From the description, it looks like the Lightning to SD card reader again are iPad and iPad mini only. This makes no sense. Their flagship product released last month isn't powerful enough to read SD cards:confused:

I just ordered the 10W iPad USB Power Adapter a few days ago, invoice was dated 22/10 and the product arrived on 23/10.

Guess what, less than 24 hours later the 10W USB Power Adapter was replaced by the 12W USB Power Adapter. Actually the 2W difference is not a big deal BUT the fact that the newer product cost 10 bucks less make me feel ripped off.

I called Apple SG today and told them i felt ripped off from the 10 bucks. I asked for a full refund and stated that the 25% open box fee was unacceptable in this case. They were understanding and after the guy at Apple's end made sure that the newer product was compatible with my iPad 3, he assured me that I will be getting a full refund and directed me to return the product.

Why the heck do they split the Camera Connection Kit into 2 separate things? Maybe no one is really using the USB one so they want to save half of the cost while charging as much.

Apple products since around 2010 had been very competitive in terms of price (e.g. MacBook Air, iPad, iPhone, etc.) thus the competitors have a hard time fighting with Apple. Now the sales are strong as ever and Tim couldn't see any astronomical growth in short term so he jacked up the prices. Together with prematurely updating the big iPad he's trying his every best into beating last year's crazy holiday season (it was IMO partly due to people missing Steve Jobs).

Umm...even the iPhone costs more than the typical competing device, and the Macbook Air is a complete rip off objectively.. It's low end hardware (basically) at a high end price.

Is that why it took competitors so long to match the iPad at $500, hardware and all?
