Dumb. This is why I just use my laptop and an HDMI cable. Can play anything and cuts all the nonsense. Can't name a single reason the Apple TV is better, and all they do is try to fleece you.

I was trying to watch a movie on the Apple TV yesterday. Spent forever typing in the name on the keyboard (the remote app wasn't showing the keyboard for some reason), couldn't find it. Did so again on the Amazon Prime app, but where the play button would normally be, it said "how do I watch this?" WTF. Went back to iTunes new releases, turns out it was in that list even though it wasn't searchable. The movie was Johnny English Strikes Again. It wasn't even that good.

Haha both Apple TV models are way overpriced, not really surprising they don’t sell well, they’ll sell even less now!

Apple could have easily launched a cheaper 4K stick today and ditched this 1080P box but noooo, in typical Apple style the price and specs remain, and it renamed it.

All other streaming devices go on sale too, especially around Black Friday? The Apple TV does not.. so no one buys it.

Apple did something better: major TV brands are getting the tv app for free. No AppleTV needed.

Want the apps and games available for tvOS? A stick won’t do. They had to increase the size of the 4K AppleTV and add vents for heat dispersion. There’s no way that’d fit in a stick.

Would have been nice if they'd taken the opportunity to drop the price, seeing as it's no longer going to be required for accessing Apple's services.
I sold my Apple TV since there’s gonna be an update to my smart tv soon that allows me to use iTunes. They made appletv as a product a little less necessary. Which is fine with me

And yet ROKU and Amazon manage perfectly fine to stream 4K on their sticks....
As for the Apple TV coming to TV’s, a step in the right direction but it’ll have limited market appeal, it should have launched into those other streaming stocks and Android boxes, I don’t know but if it offers support for Google Cast then it’s a start.

I'm surprised they didn't raise the price since it has a new name!

At the end of the day the Apple devices offer offline storage which the loss leader dongles do not. For games this will be very important as their model allows you to download instead of stream them. So when the internet gets wonky you can still watch some of your content or play a game.

Dumb question but for those of us that still have one of these, will I get the updated TV App or do they expect me to buy the exact same box with a new name to use it?

So Apple is punishing the people who buy their hardware instead of giving them benefits. Smart thinking

So much apple hate these days. It gets really old. I love my Apple TV. I use it everyday and it works flawlessly.
Apple is getting old indeed. All the old stuff got an upgrade with no design effort. Just dust it off and sell it like new

These things can't be that expensive to make; Apple really should discontinue this model and lower the price of the 4K version to match. They're gonna make far more money on the content anyway.
This is Apple we're talking about... Rising to become a trillion dollar company over penny-pinching. I can understand making a profit, but Apple turns it into an art-form

I returned mine when I realized that Apple is not going to invest in new hardware and instead will make an app that most TV manufacturers will just put in their Smart TV OS. They listed quite a few that are on board with this. I recall somebody here saying that would never happen.

Exactly. Picked up 2 Roku Premiere 4K boxes at $49.95 each on Black Friday. With $35 Sling credit to boot. Only have 1 Apple TV 4K left that I will eBay once Roku gets its app.

FireStick = Slow and Glitch in my testing..no thanks

1st gen Firestick yes
2nd gen maybe
3rd gen 4K absolutely not as it can emulate up to Sony PS1 with ease. For $50 or less it offers the best media decoding capabilities plus the versatility of Retropie on Raspberry Pi and freedom to run anything on it like Kodi that Apple all disallows.

Anyone who is playing games on their TV owns an Xbox One (X) or a PS4 (Pro). No one is using an Apple TV to play games. Apple TV is now "unofficially" a dead platform since it now longer will have anything unique to offer (access to Apple's ecosystem).
