I'm in Dublin, Ireland & ordered 2 iPod shuffles (both engraved 1 gift boxed) on the 1st within about 5 mins of the site coming back up after the announcements. The reason I moved so fast is cos I was already ordering 2 3rd hen shuffles when I heard of the new releases and stopped muself clicking the submit button!! :p :)
The thing I don't get tho is when I had the 3G shuffles ordered, delivery was within 24hours - so why did they let this 5-7 business day thing happen?? It's just gonna end up in confusion, annoyance and several order problems that their customer care will have to sort out...

I ordered one engraved, too. Ordered late on 9/2, still not shipped. Says it is expected to be delivered 13th-15th. I was holding out hope for the 10th, but does not seem possible at this point.

I'm pretty sure your email address is linked to an account on Apple's servers and the actual FaceTime request gets sent as a push notification or something. It's not like someone is going to have to check their email and click a link to talk to you.

It uses Jabber (XMPP) for authentications: http://www.packetstan.com/2010/07/special-look-face-time-part-3-call.html

From this analysis, we can determine that FaceTime uses XMPP to authenticate and establish a connection to an Apple “Jabber” server.

Jabber-ID is looking like an email address.

Jabber/XMPP > Rest (MSN, ICQ, AIM, ...).

Engraved always takes a fair bit longer. If you want one ASAP it's always best to order without any engraving.

I ordered my 32GB (non-engraved) about a half-hour after the store came back up and it's telling me It will ship on the 16th.

I'm hoping that's just a worst case scenario.

Since I can't get an iphone with a data only contract (even after offering to pay full cost of the phone), I'm hoping to walk in to an apple store tomorrow and buy one (32G).

Don't be scared!

I engraved mine, and I got the notice yesterday that it was prepared for shipment. So don't make people think that if they pre-ordered theirs on September 1st, that they will be waiting 3 weeks longer because they are engraved...

if I drop 399.00 on a 64 gig where's the ability to Find my iTouch like with the iPhone?

Mine is engraved and they will ship it the 21st :(

Find My iPhone Is Invoked Via Mobile Me

You must have a Mobile Me account for Find My iPod Touch to work for you. With a Mobile Me account all Apple iOS devices can be protected with "Find My iPhone". I have it working on 2 iPod Touches, 2 iPhones and my iPad. :) You can see them all working in the Find iPhone app. You turn it on in your Mail app's Mobile Me account settings.

Possible delay for those items that shipped mon/tues. FedEx 90 from Shanghai left 4 hours late and most likely will not arrive in Memphis in time to make the connection to the domestic flight your nearest sorting facility. :(
Looks like any hopes for an early arrival on Thursday is not in the cards, still holding out hope for Friday.

Woohoo! Just checked, and now mine is in Newark, New Jersey! So, it passed me in NY, and now has to come back? :p

Pretty much.

Mine snuck over to Shreveport LA during the night. That should be its last real stop before it comes here to Texas.

If they really wanted to, they could have just dropped it off on the way for me. ;)

This is almost like a video game. Tracking the progress of the iPod is like gathering achievements on Xbox Live.
