No market for a TV with an Apple premium.

The TV market is packed full I cant imagine Apple overtaking the segment, especially with the Apple TV device.

SIRI isnt going to make me pay another 1000 for a TV.

The ONLY way the device has a chance to succeed is integration with iOS devices and AFFORDABLE programming.

The current itunes model is a rip off for both buying and renting.

iTV is such a lame name.

iPanel, now thats cool.

I think iPanel is the lamer of the two. I vote for iVision. It incorporates part of the word television but could also represent their "vision" for what TV content should be like, in whatever form it takes.

User: "Siri, turn down the volume."
Siri: "I can't hear you, the volume is too loud."

Perhaps he saw a 1050's TV set with one knob for on/off/volume and one for channel or the remotes from the same era that had 4 buttons. We have seen the future, and it is yesterday!

Some day a 16 year old will be out on her first alone date. Mom and Dad streaming from their 60" ATV will look at the clock.

"Siri", where is Jane Smith"? "Jane Smith is currently located at the Smithville MoviePlex. Theater 2, row Z seat 30". (far right upper corner).

The sound of an engine starting.......... ;)

This is cool and all, but ...

I can't help but shrug and think, "Yeah... not really my thing.", because computers and technology drove me AWAY from TV watching years ago.

I do still have a couple TVs in the house, but the big set in the living room winds up used mainly by the kids for the Playstation, with the rare occasion we leave it on for some special event (like the Superbowl).

The smaller set in the master bedroom is already a GoogleTV capable set, and we really only use it before bed, if my wife feels like watching the news or Leno or something.

The time I used to spend watching TV shows has pretty much been exchanged for time spent surfing the web, reading my favorite message forums on topics I care about, etc.

lets see what the selection is. I'm on the market for a new tv, will wait until september, may go the projector route tho

"TV TV TV!!!"

You guys all love to us the term "TV", but after Apple releases this new product it will become all but obsolete.

White & Black

I think it would awesome if they came out with both a white and a black TV. It would stand out. I would absolutely buy a white. It would look like there is no bezel on my white walls.

I also find it fascinating that some people say there is no way this is happening. When that dude who was making SJs yacht said he was building the next new device. Apple came right out and squashed it. If this wasn't true I think they would do the same. Because it would be bad for them to get all of the hype and no follow through.

I'm also concerned that hand motion controls won't be integrated and frankly it needs to be. The whole base of apple products is how it interacts with the user, thats why iPad is so fun.

When it comes down to it, Apple has come out with concepts none of us could see coming when it came to new products. I have faith this iTV will be no different.

Which TV sets have two DTT tuners for Full Picture-in-Picture (Full PiP), which requires at least two Digital Terrestrial Television (DTTV or DTT) tuners inside the TV set? The Full PiP feature is extremely useful for channel surfing during commercials (ie., very handy for bridging commercial breaks). Thus, waiting for commercials to end on one show while flipping through channels to see what else is on. No cable/satellite/TiVo/DVR involved; just the TV set. After image quality, Full PiP is the most important feature of a TV for many consumers.

This is all about taking on Samsung... They just want samsung to lose customers....

get it right

I think it will be cool if and when this comes to market. I just hope Apple and their partners deliver a solid panel. Good contrast, black levels and the ability to admit that LCD clouding is a big deal. Sony, Samsung and the rest of the gang are quick to dismiss any customer complaints about clouding on their sets. We'll see.

the same thing were said about cellphones before iphone, actually if u look at things almost anything can be "re-invented" and marketed as a consumer package, be it car or tv, everything needs re-invention and apple operates on principles of creativity and innovation (i feel), they can do it!

for people disagreeing on apple tv being hit, well what is a tv channel? it can be think of as a stand alone app in which there ll be many interactive features, this is just one example i m giving to you all.

This thing if done right can be so much useful to all aspects of tv/film industry and it ll create huge opportunities, being a consumer/pro gadget it can be used in many different ways for entertainment/business, so why think pessimistic?

artists working in industry need revolution so be it apple or any other firm only technology will find good way.

p.s. - Sorry for bad english

A previous commenter has it correct that the new TV will be called iVision. Apple will shorten the title to iV for simplicity's sake. They will then release a round remote control for it, known as the iBall. Then, they will release a set of Apple-branded horror films for the new TV, known as iScream. For 3D content, they'll also provide special iGlasses. Finally, since you can't tote the iV around, they'll provide special iD cards so you can brag about your purchase to others.

Sorry, couldn't resist. Maybe we can talk about the MacBook Pro refresh and other things that actually might happen now?

clearly apple being a control freak type of company will create their own eco-system in which people/corporations related to content will have to adhere, just like web operates on principles of html etc...

what we have today is no interaction with tv channels, we cant comment, connect, feedback or tell studios/channel that we like this program or dislike.

a tv can also be thought of as a display that can do many things not just "tv stuff", again good device for business office/living room

scope is there, u just have to look beyond to understand the overall picture, i have given u very few examples i can sketch many things that can be done in tv , in my view almost any product can be re-invented

siri holds her tongue

I really hope Siri doesn't ask me if I want to watch the trailer every time I search for something...or push other shows/movies on us in that fashion. I ask it a question, I get an answer, done. I'm not ready to converse with my TV yet. :( Although if you ask Siri "is that movie any good" she could reply, "haven't seen it", that'd be fun. :p

It would be great if :apple:TV could find the movie/show/content you want and tell you if it's on Netflix, iTunes, for rent or purchase, and at what price point. That's actually useful. Yeah I doubt Apple builds a comparison shopping feature into their set, but that's what I would want.

Oh, and let's have everything be in HD now, please (SD optional for the bandwidth impaired). No more SD only rentals, HD only purchases, but oh wait, Hurt Locker isn't 5.1, etc...time to move on and fight about something else.

what SJ meant by having "cracked it":

- start a rumor that scares competitors s**tless
- competitors will step up their game and actually release a decent smart-TV
- SJ can go out and buy a competitors product while other CEO's suffer high blood pressure for the rest of their lives.

u can clearly see today the gigantic popularity of youtube, people love media, people love content more over people love "control"

people love movies and shows, today they watch it on pc more than tv, they spend more money going in theatres for movies, if same experience can be given at ur home with an incredible device that can do much more than tv apple tv is gonna win.

ipod plays high quality music and it was a same thing if u look at it, now ipod does a lot more.

You're going to get in trouble calling it iTv..

What if they called it an i "Touch" Tv or iTTv :p

If I had the money (which of course I don't as I'm saving for a newer MBP and most of the free cash goes to camera equipment anyway) I would like this new TV to last longer than Apples buy new every 3/4 years trap.
