apple tv looks more like a challenge for software engineers there at apple, not only great experience but they ll be responsible for offering an entire new eco-system, just like ios platform

in my opinion it ll take time, 2013

today lets say if u want to start ur own channel its very hard, its not for common man(average joe), today youtube did it, people can create channel, independence there. Same thing happened in iOS many people developed for iOS

thats huge man if u can see it

sorry for poor english

I am still having a hard time believing the iTV thing. It would be great, but it seems that Apple is still going to have a very difficult time with content providers. Apple is awesome at what they do though, so maybe they will come up with something that can truly add value and simplicity to regular TVs for a reasonable price.

exactly but that is the thing they ll "force" to change with their "own" ecosystem, just like iphone in which only network companies worry about delivering quality network signals nothing on phone.

Media world is not so diff, today its a lot of mess, consumer is there but system is not there, its all about vision that is why they are "apple".

yes there is a scope for many many opportunities

think about it today how restricted u are when u land on lets say X channel, what can u do there? nothing much just landed n now u are watching it.

no interactive elements in channel, u are kind of forced to watch what is there, u cant skip or control what is on screen and that is why u love ur computer more than tv, this can be re-invented

and think about people who want to start channel but current system/setup doesnt allow them to start anything bec its so complicated and u need loads of stuff/resources, youtube is popular bec of same reasons, channels

this is just one example of alleged apple future tv, more ll be there.

hey may not be lying, but these are media rumor tactics to gain attention and def product is coming so might as well indulge in some rumors about it.

remember days/year before iphone launch it was same thing

Hold on, you might need to adjust your tinfoil hat.

I'll buy it if it has built-in video recorder that allows me to record and save anything that's being shown on screen (yeah, no way in hell that will happen), if it's not too expensive. I don't need all these voice command and FaceTime crap on a TV. They add nothing to the convenience of life.

Where's the new MacBook Pros??? Besides, I have a perfectly good 63" TV now, I hope that Apple will come out with something that doesn't require replacing the entire system.

Just be grateful they aren't making you buy a new house to put it in!

I suppose if they do this they have to start somewhere. Just the rumors are for such tiny sets that I do have a hard time understanding who would be buying them especially at a premium. But then again, I can only speak for myself and even the 55 in Samsung I have now in my theater could be a bit bigger. :)

Sorry dude, it's an expression for conspiracy theorists.

Seriously though, the head of Foxconn probably knows what's up and if they're quoting him then he's either off his meds or he's telling the truth and they're doing a bit of guerrilla marketing with Apple to trump up interest.

I hope it looks better than an Aye-Aye.

I've not heard anything yet that makes me want to but an Apple TV set, but I've not heard anything from Apple yet. If they make a TV, I hope they have something up their sleeve.

Other manufacturers have been upping their game recently. They now appear better prepared than mobile phone manufacturers were before the iPhone. Have they been listening to the rumours?

the same thing were said about cellphones before iphone, actually if u look at things almost anything can be "re-invented" and marketed as a consumer package, be it car or tv, everything needs re-invention and apple operates on principles of creativity and innovation (i feel), they can do it

Look at the tablet market before the iPad. Companies have been trying for years (and still are) to be able to sell tablets but were not succeeding. Apple changed all that with the iPad. I can see Apple doing something like that with a Apple branded TV.

People that are down playing the idea of an Apple TV should go back and re-read what was being said when the iPhone and iPad was first introduced and realize that Apple always seems to be able to figure out how to re-invent an industry product in new ways.

Perhaps the quote from Steve Jobs was out of context. He might have threw his Apple remote at the TV with his anger to go "thermonuclear war" with Google that Steve then said "I finally cracked my TV."

the first apple flop is here with the apple tv, mark my words, you heard it here first.:)

Some day a 16 year old will be out on her first alone date. Mom and Dad streaming from their 60" ATV will look at the clock.

"Siri", where is Jane Smith"? "Jane Smith is currently located at the Smithville MoviePlex. Theater 2, row Z seat 30". (far right upper corner).

The sound of an engine starting.......... ;)

i guess i was the only one that smiled after reading that.

that said, foxcon is either apples puppet on the iwhatever television or he stepped up way to much and is going to hope his own nets fail.

theres no doubt theres going to be a tv with siri and facetime at least. having just graduated from film school, i love the idea it being able to run channels as apps, and the seperation of the cable/sat companies control. im a bit skeptic about seperating shows into apps, however, after i just ran the numbers, im not so anymore. on one episode of the walking dead alone, say the 2nd season finale, they had 10.5 million viewers, if they charged everyone 50cents to watch that episode, they would make back their entire budget for the whole season amost twice over. that would revolutionize the industry, at least from my view.

Audio Video expansion kit for Apple TV 2,3

I wonder if Apple or Third Parties will provide a video camera and directional microphone so that SIRI capabilities and video chat will be available to owners of the Apple TV 2 and 3 models?

Also the Forward LCD maybe at double 1080p resolutions would have to be pretty compelling when compared to Samsung LED image quality for this Sharp built Apple TV to take off.

Complete speculation:

Maybe Apple have had meetings with numerous companies including Sharp, and now is the time to leak a rumour about that so that Samsung realise/believe Apple have other options.

Or, Apple cooled the legal war of words with Samsung to get a better deal with Sharp.

Either way, I hope they don't try to pull that 'we have an extra colour' nonsense.

Am I the only one who thinks Siri on a tv is not a great idea? At least when it comes to watching actual tv, I don't see the point. If your using it for searches or to make FaceTime calls then I get it. But to have to speak to change the channel? I hope there would be other options.

As many have said I want to see the cable tv model brought down more than anything.

There is no way the Foxconn Chief could be that dumb to just blurt out upcoming Apple products.

But if he is that dumb, and if he did blurt out real information, it wouldn't hurt. The Osborne effect only hurts sales of older models, while potential customers hold off purchases and wait for the new model. Apple doesn't have an existing television set, so there's no downside to "leaks." In fact, it could help to build buzz.

Siri on a TV will be hilarious. It is like when an ad for those "clap-on/clap-off" light controllers comes on the TV and it makes the lights in you room go off if you own one. I can see ads on TV saying "Siri - go to XXX.com webpage" and making the TV switch - that system will be gamed in a second...

The Lisa was the first Apple flop, and there have been a few other disappointing releases over the years. But you are not pushing yourself if you don't make mistakes.

It is too early to predict a flop when we don't even know for certain that Apple are making a TV, and if they are, what features it will have.

But I am enjoying the speculation on what features it will have. Price and reception speculation are not so interesting. All those iPad rumours that it was going to flop because it offered nothing new and would be too expensive at $1000 are happening again with the TV.

Oh no! I already see the adverts that command your TV. Nooooooooo!

[...] People that are down playing the idea of an Apple TV show go back and re-read what was being said when the iPhone and iPad was first introduced and realize that Apple always seems to be able to figure out how to re-invent an industry product in new ways.

Exactly. Apple won't even bother to release a major product like a TV set until they've 1. spent years building an infrastructure for it, and 2. spent years experimenting, developing, testing, and refining that product's hardware and software. The infrastructure is developed and rolled out over time, in the open, for all the world to see and use. Apple tests and refines their infrastructure to prepare for their next product launch. The actual physical product is kept secret for as long as possible, because it's the keystone. The tip of the iceberg.

This keeps the competition off balance and behind the curve. Because even if competitors know Apple's future product details, they'll still be forced to spend years trying to build out their own infrastructures. With no payoff until those infrastructures are completed, because they can't' release a consumer product until the infrastructure is finished. And by then, Apple is already readying their next industry-disrupting product. Good luck trying to copy that.
