October will be two years with my iPhone 4. I held out from the launch date for the white. I ended up settling with the black on the first week of October. I figured that I will get the next iPhone until I got my first iPad (the new one). Now I am finding a new iPhone less desirable. I'll probably get the new iPhone anyways because I am such a geek.

Given apple's attention to detail I find it hard to believe that the 6th iPhone will be called iPhone 5.

The 3GS was an incremental update to the 3G, but was succeeded by the eponymous 4th iPhone. What makes people think apple would miss a number?

That said, given recent trends in naming it makes sense that it will be introduced simply as the new iPhone. Once people get over the 'new' confusion I expect iOS devices will follow macs and become known as the 2012 iPhone etc.

huh october launch is not bad.

we have june for computer than october for phone.

interesting year

Anyone high up enough to know these things (directly or indirectly) is high up enough to keep their mouth shut—and keep their job.

Anyone NOT high up enough to know is potentially in the path of intentional red herrings.

“Fall” in general sounds right, but even if Apple has a more specific date planned internally, that date could change.

No I think it will be June ish.

In order to keep the iPhone 4S sales up, it would be in Apple's best interest to perpetuate the rumors that put the iPhone 5 release date as being later in the year. Rumors of a June release date have already affected 4S sales.

I think its a better release date for sales in Sept/Oct range anyway and where the iPods aren't a big factor in Apple's success anymore (unfortunately :( ) then they should introduce the iPhone instead for holiday sales.

The iPads release date is the one that is sheer genius, people buy the previous generation model as christmas gifts only to have the new one introduced 3 months later enticing them to yet again shell out more money.

Why are we still using iPhone 5 as the vernacular? Shouldn't it be the "iPhone 6" or "new iPhone?"

Wow a new Iphone coming out with a amazing 3.5 inch screen. That is so resoultionary. Dont worry Apple will be a niche market soon enough as they have always been. A close ecosystem will never work. Daddy told me I cant use this app. Dont think so. Choice and open-source will always reign. Even though I like the iphone myself.
You can't be serious Apple is to mobile what Microsoft is to desktop how does a closed ecosystem manage to acquire so many different types of apps from so many different software companies? Just because they have to meet a certain standard for Quailty certainly doesn't seem to be scareing away all the developers.
Not to mention IOS is where the money is for App developers so your comment just doesn't make sense.
Ohhh wait I missed it your so right the iPhone only has a 3.5 in screen your right no one is gonna buy that crap. Major fail Apple what were you thinking the end is near

October is no surprise considering they need to get a good look at the SGS3 so as to make quick adjustments to the next iPhone to be competitive. Samsung is the most serious threat to Apple in the mobile world without question.

Just please give us a redesign.. My mouth waters over the size of some of those android screens, hate the software tho, if there was some way to hackintosh one of this phones I would be sold
