All this profit and companies can't seem to pay their employees more

They pay so little that lots of workers would rather stand in line for these jobs, versus all the other things they could do.

So why haven't you started a company that pays more? Don't want to, or don't know how? That's the problem: everybody who thinks these workers should be paid more is too lazy, selfish or stupid to do anything about it themselves. :p

Price speculation aside, I've always thought Apple has a good idea in play here. As one who has no fear or insecurities about plastic, I'd bet this phone will be one of Apples top sellers.

Amongst the veritable collection of Mac laptops I have bought new & kept, my 2006 Black PLASTIC MacBook remains one of my favorites. People that see it refuse to believe its not new, that's a two part situation. 1) I've taken good care of it, even though its been around the world with me seeing very heavy usage and 2) it's proof positive of the advantages of Plastic as implemented by Apple.

I'll be buying a "Cheap Plastic" iPhone and delighted to retire my pre-damaged Aluminum iPhone 5, that came out of the box complete with free scratches from Apple. Oh and by the way it was the replacement to the original iPhone 5, with nearly equal 20mm long fingernail deep "beauty marks".

Nothing is stopping you from making your own company and paying employees what you want.

your answer has nothing to do with his comment so perhaps you quoted the wrong post?

Profits are what's left after paying employees. That 41% bump is in profits. I wouldn't be surprised if workers' rates don't go up one penny. Maybe they'll give the workers a nice Foxconn coffee mug. That's what happens in the good old USA ;)

Can we have a new Foxconn stock photo? Seems like the same three over and over.

Those are the most decent ones they have unfortunately. A fourth picture shows the shackles on the workers' feet. A fifth picture they took looks fine at first, but further inspection revealed an employee in the background trying to escape out a window.

And yet according to every half whit analyst and for this and that Apple is going fail. Contradictions are driving me nuts.

Fail to see how they will fail any more than any othe big company. Of course they are loosing market share but that's what happens when dozens of cheap competitors join the Frey and some of the practically and literally give away stock and claim it as legitimate sales.

It's easy to undercut a market. Much harder to produce high quality product. My experienced with a couple of the different Android mush mash was appalling. I can't see what anyone sees in them. SERIOUSLY IT'S RUBBISH! Stop buying the sheet, your bringing all humanity down a notch. Bloody moans atolls...

You really need to calm down. I'll reiterate what someone else said to your last post - you're way too affected by this, you should seek some help.

Rise in profit comes from rise in revenue. Rise in revenue comes from building more devices. Building more devices means employing more people. If a company grows profits by 40% by employing 40% more workers, then there's no reason to pay more.

On the other hand, it seems that wages at Foxconn have been increased quite a lot in the last years. Just type "Foxconn wage rise" into Google. It seems your assumption that Foxconn workers don't get raises seems to be based on prejudice and ignorance alone. From Forbes:

"Sources now claim that Gou declared at a function on May 16 that simply catching up to Taiwanese wages is not enough, and that monthly salaries for workers in China should be doubled to 4,400 yuan (US$690) by the end of 2013. If the claim proves to be true, this would be Foxconn’s fourth announced salary hike in China in the last two years. It would also represent a near five-fold salary increase for the company’s 1 million workers on the mainland since 2010."

Well then they are more progressive than here.

If the employees buy stock, sure they can get more when the company does well.

I thought there was news opposite to this. I'm going to stop paying attention to these kinds of stories now.

Surely this increase in profit will trickle down to the employee level in the forms of monetary raises, bonuses, better living environments... Right?

Why? That doesn't happen in the US? Executives in US earn the bonuses, golden parachutes, stock options.
Gap between execs and workers widening at historic, obscene and immoral rates.

They are suggesting that Apple's growth is slowing (which it is) and that going forward it will make much smaller gains than it had been previously. This is somewhat expected to happen as any market matures and solidifies.

Solid comment, thanks.

In the short term, I see lack of growth due to:
1) Mature iPhone/iPod market and a rapidly maturing iPad market.
2) Dying PC market.

However, in the long term I see some potentially large new vectors for growth:
1) iPhone 5C to sell at a lower price point. This can bring in the masses in developing economies and any market where unsubsidized phone pricing is the norm.
2) AppleTV app store to open up iOS gaming and video media on the big screen. This could switch it from a hobby to competing with consoles and set top boxes.
3) iWatch, iTV, iHovercraft, or whatever the next entirely new product line is that will disrupt yet another industry.

You seem to be a thoughtful person; I'm curious, where do you think the growth is going in the long term?

But I thought Larry Ellison said Apple was going under?

No that was Michael Dell, Larry thinks the world of Apple

five fold means 5 times
Foxconn is paying five times as much now?

----------

The truth is the employees are there willingly at an agreed upon salary.

companies exists to make profit for their shareholders.

Is that all there is? All this blood sweat and tears just that some guy who bought in to the company because he thought he could make a quick buck,

Shareholders get in when they think the company is under valued and get out when they think the company is over valued.

Yet all decisions must be made with their selfish interests in mind at all times

I just can't see Steve Jobs thinking this way.

The Poly iPhone is going to kill it. I think they may even embark on a totally new business model. I think something big is going to happen with both phones... I do believe the wallet is going bye byes with the iPhone 5S coming into fruition with Authentec's acquirement remembered only less than a couple years ago. The tech has now come... for this fall.

But, this Poly iPhone may have a totally new business model with data usability, and having more use/utility with the cloud/iCloud specifically.

Better living?

Surely this increase in profit will trickle down to the employee level in the forms of monetary raises, bonuses, better living environments... Right?

It's China? Better living? Who cares, I want my stuff, well made and as cheap as possible.

Actually, there is something stopping companies from making their components elsewhere. It's not the price of labor. It's the fact that Chinese companies now have 20 years of experience, and infrastructure, and they can set up shop and blast out a million or two copies in very quick order. I think it's scary that American business decided a long time ago that they weren't going to do electronics at all here. When they stopped making TVs in the United States, they still had tubes in them -- and most were black and white.
