I don't plan on buying it anyway. I don't touch 1st gen hardware. I'll let someone else spend the silly money to beta test it. I'll jump in on the 3rd or 4th gen once prices come down and the hardware and tech matures.

Thanks in advanced to anyone who buys it ;)

As someone who has worked in the Marketing & Sales field in IT,..I'm sorry but that makes absolutely no sense. It makes complete sense, if the objective is to release a product with a perception of high quality. They need to stand out in the overcrowded VR/ AR marketplace.

They are wanting it to have the feel of a high end product and still garner the software to support it. I'm guessing they will have only under 5 software developers they are currently working closely with.

3k is NOT expensive when you consider the quality of hardware & sensors that have been rumored. Just look at how much their computer hardware is.
a 3k-5k headset is outside 95% of people’s budget, and that’s IF the product is something truly amazing and revolutionary.
(which I just don’t see it)
The “quality” of sensors doesn’t really make much difference to this fact.

Just like iPhone and iPhone 3G. First gen was iconic but expensive and have less feature, while the 2nd gen is the mass market version with fuller features but might use cheaper materials.

Right, this is silly. More like extremely expensive for a niche gadget. The comparison is absurd.

So what is this we are going to see? Doesn't sound very interesting if I can't own one. Boring. For those non-business users that will buy one, I envy your vast wealth. This I know. So in nutshell the real release date is maybe late next year or farther out (like much).

They should have just ...not done it this way. Like SJ showing the first iPhone that 'just costs too much for anyone' .Lines would have to wait....for years.

Sorry to be so negative, but I'm finding it so easy.
Have you told Apple they are doing it wrong? Perhaps they don't have your expertise in designing and selling tech?

Judging on price, the headset is going to join the the list of expensive flops:
1. Apple Pippin (flop game machine)
2. Apple HiFI (flop speakers)
3. Airpod Max (generally flop)
4. Big round Apple speaker (forgot the name, flop as well) :)
5. Trashcan Mac Pro (flop desktop)
6. Butterfly Macbook (with keyboard flop) etc

I owned an iPhone 3G as a college student. It was amazing at the time. For $3k - $5k, there's no way I'd buy one.

I'm excited. Google was first, "don't be a glasshole". And now Apple reinvents the meaning of "to be a blockhead"/"have a board in front of your head" :)

Btw everything depends on the apps - again. Even if Apple solved all the pitfalls like eyestrain, nausea and dizziness and motion sickness. There is a common problem when you try to focus an object, but instead you try to focus on a pixelated screen.
Basically children shoudn't wear VR glasses at all, it may have a very bad influence to their developing sense of sight and perception.

So, yes. I'm excited. Will Apple succeed, or will its AR/VR glasses be dead on arrival?

I think its laughable, the list of leaks for the headset. Half of it probably isn’t true. And if they expect to sell to developers, there will probably be a few, but I doubt whether many will want to take the risk with no market to sell into. At least with the Quest / Quest 2 you have the possibility of making some sales.

Agreed, most likely is an expensive flop, even for the second generation device “costing as much as a high-end Mac” indeed.

Sorry to say but these comments don’t reflect a clear view of the current economic circumstance. The prices things are being sold at right now in general are swelling from inflation. The relentless increase in prices to satisfy the desire for increasing returns with similarly inflated resource pricing and labor shortages due to illness and malaise from post pandemic effects….

These prices are not sustainable. This Gen 1 product (if it indeed existed in some close to viable final form) will likely never see the light of day. They wouldn’t be able to justify the investment in manufacturing equipment that could only be sold to a very small percentage of individuals. And they would not get software support in any sufficient quantity when most VR users have gravitated heavily towards the very affordable Oculus Quest line of solutions.

Besides that you will also have the console market options like PSVR.

I’m not saying that all these products are competing in the same space but I am saying that they are technically competing for the same buyers. (Who ever gets the largest market share will dictate the terms of the playing field.)

I would rather see Apple go all out and flex on this product to see what it is capable of at the highest level. A less expensive (not cheaper) will most likely come later, but we don’t even know what the first model will come out at. I will buy it regardless of the price.
Ah, then the price for you is a cool $1 million

It's not clear that the second headset is really a second generation. It may be a Pro model and a standard-model. It is like calling a MacBook Air the second generation of a MacBook Pro.

Honestly, $3000 is a lot of money for regular consumers.
You obviously live in America. Thats the cost of a maxed out iPhone Pro, high end PC, laptop or specked out macbook pro elsewhere in the world.

What's a "regular customer"? It's rumored to be a high end device with expensive components. I don't think it's expensive when I see the rumored components, you do. So there you go, 1 sale, 1 no sale 😏

Why are you getting worked up over rumors? It's only a rumor 🤦‍♂️

It's the money. I would love this, but I can't buy so what is it worth? Maybe you will buy it, bless you.

Apple makes this awesome thing. The catch is, you can only look. Yours will come later, much later, if ever LOL. They are a consumer company not some niche tech company. Their user base is beyond huge which translates to huge frustration.

But who cares. It's just a little annoying,
