It's the money. I would love this, but I can't buy so what is it worth? Maybe you will buy it, bless you.

Apple makes this awesome thing. The catch is, you can only look. Yours will come later, much later, if ever LOL. They are a consumer company not some niche tech company. Their user base is beyond huge which translates to huge frustration.

But who cares. It's just a little annoying,
So tell them you won't buy it and they will cease all their manufacturing plans. I mean, they're only building it for you, right?

so you can't even let other people use it if you got prescription? i don't think this is good.
Not good for a lot of people, but a large number of those currently using VR aren’t sharing their headsets anyway (the guy in the video thought it was a bad idea, but then considered how many times he’s actually shared his headset with other folks and realized, for him, it’s not a big deal at all).

That price makes zero sense. I bought in early to the first Oculus Quest. I would have put a lot of money down that whatever it’s been…. 3 years later, VR would be killing it!

And it’s exactly the opposite. I rarely touch the VR because it lost its hype and didn’t have quick enough game development… AND Meta lost lots of money with what I think was the logical approach of releasing an affordable model to hope VR catches on… which it really hasn’t.

So how in the world do you justify releasing a $5k device, which won’t have many sales…and how do you continue to hype the product with game development, etc? Don’t get their marketing here.

Regardless if people say it’s a niche market, you aren’t simply selling a device and that’s the end of the story… you HAVE to have constant game development. It basically turns into overhead that you HAVE to keep focusing on, in order to actually make money.

But neither of those are Apple’s home turf. They are basically non-existent in industry, engineering and most business environments.
I was thinking of industry in terms of the creative professionals that pay for things from Apple like 500 dollar sets of wheels for pro machines.

i didn't mean sharing as you would with a sibling. i'm thinking more about you got people over one day and you are excited to show them an experience or even something you are developing yourself, you strap them in and they go "wtf"

as a game dev motivation for me is really helped by having people i know try out my games, so for me when it comes to choice, i'd pic the device for that one potential of showing off to someone even if it happens only once.

I guess the interesting question is if there will be a killer application in the creative market. So far, I saw more usage of AR in "actual" industrial use like engineering, manufacturing etc.

If that is really the approach Apple is really using. As a consumer, I feel like I'm getting scammed. I don't think Apple will release a product that is half way done. There is no guarantee, the content creators/developers will be fully vested in the upcoming Apple AR/VR. If it's not going to generate any money for them. They are not going to bother. Look at what happened to the Lidar Sensor, 5-7 years later we don't see the Lidar being used efficiently as it should.
You misunderstand. It’s not “halfway done”. It’s a full product, that just needs an ecosystem that can only come to exist after it’s released. That’s like saying the first iPhone was a scam because there was no third party apps yet.

It’s not a good fit for everyone. The user mentions it’s for folks already into VR and want the best lightest experience currently available. For those that want to share their headset in ANY way at all, I’d recommend they avoid this high quality relatively inexpensive (based on the quality) headset.
