Does this happen suddenly while your playing a game under Bootcamp? Or does it just happen while playing in OSX?

Ive must of played over 60 hours of Skyrim and Dead Island the last few weeks in Bootcamp and Ive never seen the SMC bug... in fact, Ive never reset the SMC even once since I got the laptop

Your one of the lucky ones. Make sure you buy some lotto tickets :)

Many of us do suffer the SMC bug unfortunately. And it seems apple is in no big hurry to fix it :(

I only played Hitman running bootcamp and after playing a while fps went down from 35 to 8.
After a reboot & SMC reset fps was back up to 35 fps but after playing for an hour fps went back down.
Even if i put all settings to Low and the resolution to the absolute minimum (i think i tested 800x600) fps was still 8!!!

Now they released an EFI update for the Mac Mini screen flickering issue i hope the EFI update for the MBPr 15inch is next!

It would be nice if they released it soon :)

Don't have a Bootcamp partition. Only gaming in Steam on Mac.

Ok you guys, something for you to try.

What about if you disabled the CPUs turbo boost in windows?

Do you still get the bug then?

How do you disable CPU Turbo Boost ? And how would it give us better framerate if we disable it ?

I have the same issue here with my RMBP (any of you with a non retina have the same issue or is it a RMBP related bug ?). Sometimes under bootcamp I've got unplayable framerates (from 30 when everything is perfect to less than 10 when the bug appears with Far Cry 3), and after having tested other versions of nvidia drivers, intel drivers and many useless things, I discovered that reseting the SMC did the trick (that's how I came here). I don't play under Mac OS X so I can't confirm this happens in Mac OS X too, but you guys mac players seems to have the same issue.

You need to go into windows power settings and change the CPU max power state to less than 100% I use 95%.
This disables turbo and keeps my rMBP very cool when gaming. You won't gain any higher frame rates but you won't lose much if any at all either .

I still get this issue sporadically with WoW.

Seems to still relate to sleep or deep sleep when not plugged into a power source. Again shutting down and resetting the SMC works. Just a bit annoying I guess.

Though not as annoying as not keeping the resolution and reverting to best for retina when I plug in an external monitor!

2 years later the issue is still there

definitely related to sleep, i don't need to reset SMC - only reboot

reboot = fast game
sleep/wake = slow game

i should check if the game would be slow if computer was sent to sleep before starting the game..

the workaround that worked for me - don't wake your mac using keyboard, use power button instead. (doh.. obviously that works for imacs not for rmbp, sorry)
