Yea sure, an AT&T corp employee might not do this, but an authorized dealer employee might, and we all know how much background check these authorized dealer go through before hiring people. Authorized dealers are the worst when it comes to committing fraud. I have know ppl that get screw by authorized dealer( upgrading their line, upgrade their plan) so they can get more commission.

Again there's records of all that info in the system who, where, when what etc....
Its not like anyone can do anything they want with your plan at authorized dealers locations and they cannot get in trouble.
But I do agree its better to do your transactions on a corporate owned store.

Final Update=

I am now back with Verizon- final straw was my new bill from ATT posted for $720 dollars on last Friday - I immediately called the ATT Exec Team Rep Jason and left a message. No return call - I then started to receive Aursion calls about returning my defective devices on all my lines from the fraud issue.

Verizons WIN BACK Team called me on Wednesday morning. I normally dont answer 800 calls but because I wanted to check to make sure my final bill was in the mail/ I was paperless and never received a final bill and couldnt log on after my port to ATT.

A young lady who verified my account and then told me she was in charge of bring my business and 3 line account back to Verizon. She asked me why I ported and if I was enjoying my ATT service -I explained minus the fraud issue and CS being steps below Verizon the service good but my husband was not at all.

She said she was willing to do what was needed to get my numbers ported back. She reviewed my previous account, verifed the payment hustory and offered - Share Everything 10GB $100 minus my 22% discount, all lines no contract for $15 (3), no activation fees, eft fees reversed, and $100 each line bill credit.

My bill ended up $2 cheaper than with ATT because my employee discount is larger on Verizon and I HAVE A HAPPY HUSBAND. ;)

I finally called the ATT Exec Rep again after he didnt respond to my first call at all -who stated he would try to fix the issues again asap. But to give him a week.

I explained this relationship was doomed by the fraud issue and I am going back to Verizon as soon as we resolve my ATT account. That every month I could not and would not go thru the task of trying to get my bill adjusted. Jason agreed to waive all fees and the MRC and to send me a letter to confirm that he has done that.

I ported back to Verizon- end of saga well hopefully I still havent gotten my resolved letter from Jason

Funny thing my oldest son worked for ATT several years ago and when I had the fraud issue, he advised me that every month I would go thru this and to port back to Verizon immediately after the account was restored. Glad I waited because Tamara on the win back made it worth my time and effort.:D:D

Glad to see your issues resolved (hopefully), and welcome back to Big Red :). My boyfriend left AT&T for T-Mobile last summer because they kept finding ways to raise his bill. He even had to try many times to get a second line removed that he didn't need anymore. They begged him to keep it to keep their numbers up or something.

None of the carriers are perfect, but my experience tells me that AT&T is no good.

I NEVER go to Authorized Retailers.

It's either COR or Best Buy; NO EXCEPTIONS!!!

Sorry your experience with AT&T was so poor, maybe in the distant future you'll want to give it another go!?

Peace!!!

Unless things have changed over the years an authorized retailer uses POS for AT&T and to go into an account you need more than just the PTN

I can't speak for ATT but when I go to a VZW store and they need to look up my account they need my phone number and last 4 digits of my social. I can't believe ATT in this day and age of identity theft wouldn't have that level of security as well.

No thank u - verizon is where I will be - my main reason for moving was pricing - Tamara made that a non issue

I am happy it is over - checked the Att acct this morning and it is with a zero balance and closed - and it will remain that way

They do ask for verification of the last 4 digits of the SSN.

It's pretty sickening that when when fraud happens, a company like AT&T won't do EVERYTHING they can to bend over backwards to side with the customer once the fraud is found out to not be them.

- Remove all fees from bills.

- Reactivate all devices that were blacklisted.

- Apologize profusely and provide credit for the trouble you went through.

Instead, they charge you hundreds of dollars and keep making you deal with the ********? WTF! What happened to customer service? This sort of behavior makes AT&T look really bad. (I'm sure they will lose more customers over this thread alone)

Who's running that company, clowns?

My point was to inform others this can and does happen. AT&T didnt treat me with value when they turned my services on, they made me feel like they were doing me a favor and giving me the side eye too. I think ATT personnel believes I did this even if the Exec rep told me personally this is not uncommon in their system. He even went as far to tell this fraud claim can be linked to other incidents with the pattern the scammers used.

I will spend my money somewhere else. I will never ever be a customer of ATT again....period!!!!

Verizon welcomed me back with open arms so it is all good - better plan and now my husband is happy. Although last night he did give me the I told you so....

At the start of your tale if I had to put money down, I'd have said ou were scammed from the first moment. Someone calls and claims to be from the Fraud department. I bet the questions you were being asked was so they could get the very info they needed to do what they did. Use you to steal.

With the further details yeah it sounds like some kind of inside job. Based on the through line of events I'd say either an employee of the store (just not the one you dealt with) or the call center rep from your first call.

Hmm in think you may have also gotten a collective forum rolleyes when you were proclaiming how ATT was going to save you money.

The mobile share did save money over what I was paying Verizon- unless a forum member wanted to make my payments for me then their side eye really didn't matter to me. I made a decision and it didn't work out or we'll it is what it is

I wanted others to be aware of this type of fraud - and now I'm back with Verizon this thread can be closed
