Chargebacks? easily?

Why would you tell people this?
Just because you like to cheat ebay, and yes that's what you are doing by posting there and then selling outside of it .

Don't suggest others follow your stellar example.

Yes that's what chargebacks are for. When you have issues like this where you paid for something from an online merchant and didn't get what you were supposed to and the protections offered by the venue don't work for you.

Notice I suggested the OP go through Paypal first, since they offer protection for this. I suggested a chargeback as a last resort in case Paypal doesn't side with him/her as they rightfully should. Or do you think he/she should just eat the $600 charge to reward the scammer who took his money?

By the way this could have and would've happened the same had the transaction been completed on eBay. The only difference is the seller would've owed eBay fees.

Bravo, CEMajr! Well said and absolutely correct!

This morning I was very excited to receive the brand new iphone 5s that I had purchased from a seller in Noblesville, Indiana. I paid $600 for the phone. I opened the envelope and was immediately worried. Inside was an iphone 4 box. At first I thought I had been sent an iphone 4, but upon opening the box, I discovered that there was no phone inside at all. The seller sent me a bar of soap!! I was so upset. I notified my credit card company, PayPal, and the Indiana police. Hopefully they will be able to nail this thief.

Has anyone ever heard of this sort of thing before? I was so shocked you could have knocked me over with a feather, as goes the old saying. This happened through U.S. mail, so hopefully the feds might get involved, too.

lmao no

Sorry to hear that.

Did you pay via "gift"or "goods and sercices" ?

Also do you have correspondence clearing stating what you paid for?

I hope you did not gift that payment . That is why you should always deal via ebay, it clearly states what you are paying for.

Hope it works out

What is wrong with some of you people.
Was not a member of this forum but joined just chastises some of you idiots.
Quite honestly I don't know what else to post.
How about just a bit of dam courtesy to your fellow forum members.
That's all I have to say.
Just really disappointed in some of the members of this forum.

It's the MR iPhone section, what did you expect? - it turns into a cess pit around launch day.

All of the ***holes will disappear within a week and it'll be back to normal.

Thanks Brian.
The guys lost $600 and I couldn't believe a few of the comments.
He would be feeling bad enough as it is.
Not sure where this forum originates but in Australia we call these people Wankers.

Choice of purchase aside, I would have personally been leery of the seller because they have 0 seller feedback. I know that's not an immediate red flag but it can be. When / if I buy on eBay, I try my best to find folks with solid reputation.

This said, PayPal should be able to help you, OP, because if you have documented evidence of an agreement to buy a 5S and you got a 4 box and soap, you didn't get your order. PayPal almost always sides with a buyer if they have a legitimate claim.

It is perfectly fine to pay for merchandise through a Paypal invoice as long as it was for goods and the invoice states exactly what your are buying. Even if he bought it through eBay, it wouldn't change the outcome. He would of still received a bar of soap. Facebook selling groups use Paypal invoices for goods all the time. You are protected through Paypal this way. Hopefully Paypal will see that the seller relisted it and sold it again. Maybe he has scammed more buyers who filed a claim against him as well. If so, that will surely help his case.

The seller is an experienced scammer by the looks of it. Probably bought himself a new I6. Traded in his i4 without the box for $200. Took the 4 box and put the soap in for weight. Took it to the post office and had them weigh it so it showed on the label a weight. Got a receipt from the PO to show he had them weigh it and paid there when he dropped it off. Purchased signature confirmation per Paypal's Sig required over $250, so when the buyer filed a claim it would look like the buyer is the one pulling a fast one on him. He got away with $800 in total. Very sly and despicable. That is a horrible thing to go through. I am sure you will get your money back. Good luck.

Just file a claim through PayPal. You'll be fine. Take pictures of the soap

Well said.

Thanks for making me laugh. : )

That's right and it's probably gonna be hard for anyone to do anything to him. It's your word against his. Hard to prove either way. Sorry.

Did you win the bidding on Ebay?

and then took the transaction out of Ebay?

leave him a nasty review lol

Skimmed a good portion of this, and noticed he didn't actually buy this on eBay. His words, "Saw on eBay but purchased it outside of eBay…"

BOOM! There in lies the problem….

I have filed reports with PayPal, my credit card company, the police in Noblesville, Indiana, and the U.S. Post Office Fraud Inspections Unit. He may never be punished, but he committed a felony, folks, and at least now everyone knows about him, so if he tries anything like this again, there will be a record on file with everyone.

I saw the phone on eBay, but I did not purchase through eBay. Police report has been filed. I am sure the credit card company and the police will investigate this as thoroughly as possible.

Why did you not purchase it through ebay????

Your best bet is to file a dispute with Paypal first, then file a chargeback with the credit card company if that fails.

Sounds like yet another “suppressed” individual who has conveniently resorted to stealing.

Make sure you file a dispute with paypal first and not straight to the CC company.
