Hey guys. I'm in a bind right now. I'm out of town with no wifi in the hotel and need to get stuff done. What are the best free iPhone 4 tethering options right now. I only need it for a bit, so I'm hoping I can find a cheap workaround. Thanks.

If you're jailbroken, use MyWi. Its somewhat expensive, but it has a 7 day free trial which should be fine if you only need it now

Well you could Jailbreak your phone and install one of the tethering apps that are available. Or you could just enable tethering on your iPhone through AT&T and keep it for a month. Or find a nearby place with free Wifi.

So download TetherMe from Cydia? and pay the $20 a month? That may work. Thanks guys for your help right now, I'm set up using MyWi right now, but may need something to last a bit longer later. Thanks.

Actually, you can delete MyWi and if you install TetherMe, it'll trick the phone into thinking you have tethering on your phone. Nothing changes with AT&T, so they don't charge you the $20/month

That .99$ flashlight app gets me free tethering.

That statement doesn't help anyone who don't have it since it's been pulled off the store =/

meaning it does not use the tethering APN that registers data passing by in tethering mode to AT&T for them to know to charge you, but instead uses the APN for normal data you already are paying for...

Why doesn't he just go online and change his data plan to data+tethering? Wouldn't that work?

The online tethering plan is $20 more, and you can't do "unlimited".

I did the MyWi route, by the time I bought it a new version was out for $20. I put it on my jailbroken 3G (running 3.1.3). If I need to tether this month, I'll just transfer the SIM from my iPhone 4.

But if he only needs it temporarily, he can just buy the extra data plan, do his thing, then switch back to the normal plan for next month. It doesn't sound like a big deal to me.

But if he has unlimited data and goes to the tethering data plan, he can't go back to unlimited officially. This is probably what he is trying to avoid.

+1 for TetherMe.

Because he doesn't want to pay for it, I'm assuming.

just because it needs to be said again....jailbreak it and go to cydia. tether away all you want. to heck with paying $20 mo. to AT&T for something you already pay for in an unlimited plan.
