because the apple "specialist" at BEST BUY has used and knows this new, unreleased device, like the back of his hand that he hasn't even used with said hands yet...

Why are people so defensive about these things? I mean, I can be too, and I think some similar things in my head, but what's the big deal? Why is this person's (that neither of us have met) so upsetting to you? I'm not trying to be a jerk - like I said, I can be the same way. It's just silly when you think about it.

Different uses for different people. Different opinions for different people.

Can't wait to get mine, though!

I think his point was a little different. No one outside of Apple has put this machine through its paces, and it is a very different machine that is not comparable to prior Apple computers. It is possibly not even directly comparable to other Core M products (the few that are on the market). So, comments about its performance are at best a WAG, with strong emphasis on the 'A' component.

Definitely agree on being eager to try it. It's been a while since Apple put so much new stuff into a single machine.

From Best Buy's Career Site:

"As a Best Buy Apple Specialist, we'll pay you nothing more, but we will trade in your blue Best Buy polo shirt for a black Best Buy Apple Specialist polo, instantly telling the world that you have arrived!"

LOL

I feel dishonest using it if I'm not actually moving. :(

Jump up and down, MOVE it all around!

Always good when a "specialist" talks garbage about the very product line they're there to sell. I dunno, the quality of employees at Best Buy in CA are significantly lower than middle America. It's so expensive to live here, and at that pay they're competing with McDonalds and Burger King, so you don't expect much from the people. I have only been to BBY a couple times in the last year, mainly trying to find a cable or something they don't even have... but one time their "Apple Specialist" said to me "I just have a Dell laptop, but I really want to get an Apple laptop"... I mean common, can't they at least find someone who is a current user of the product? I get it that not every salesman at the Lamborghini dealership can afford one, but common.

What are the terms of the "mover's discount"?

Well the terms of the movers coupons aren't that you have to be moving. It's only called the movers coupon because Best Buy uses that as a method of distribution. It makes sense, because often times when someone buys a house or moves into a new place they need an appliance or something new for the new place.. wiring, etc.

The issue I have is it excludes minimum retail price products, of which Apple current-gen laptops are a part of... so it's a real YMMV in usage. None of the stores in the bay area that I've tried will take them.

Exactly! It shows how good of a employee he must be if he is bad mouthing a product that he not only hasn't tried, but doesn't even know all the facts about when he is supposed to be representing the company that makes it. Its bad business and almost unbelievable.

Me too! It's just not worth it. I'll pay the full amount and feel good about it.

You realize Best Buy distributes those coupons to get you into their stores, not to push you away? It's like saying if you get on an airplane and someone left the paper in the seatback pocket you feel not right about using the coupons in the paper because you're not the buyer of the paper.

Best Buy would much rather you use the coupon than buy the product from someone else.

Trying to tell me it was a glorified netbook.

I'm not saying that it is, but for the sake of argument ... what differentiates it from a glorified netbook? In some ways, it seems like a move back in that direction.

The term netbook referred to a small computer for surfing the web, checking emails, and doing just about anything a big laptop does (back when laptops were 2.5 inches thick)... so in that sense, sure. But then again, the world has gone to using 90% of laptops for these basic tasks.

Is it going to be adequate as a main computer coming from a 2012 13" cMBP? I need it to do some basic photo editing in Aperture and the OCCASIONAL video editing job. I know only time will tell, but I need to know if it will be excruciating to use. It seems like it might be a bit overpriced. If it was $999 like the old MacBooks, it would be a no-brainer.
