I think it might be more than it seems as I've had at least three things cause it (with I believe the root cause being GFX drivers) ....

The lockups only happen on my MBA's; my MacPro (also SSD, Trim Enabled) (Note: Not MBPro) running the exact same setup has been rock solid. MBA's freeze at least once a day and battery isn't great, YES, formatted installs without using Time Machine at all.

Back to Lion on the Airs until about 10.8.3 .....:)

If you check the on-going discussion, everyone in this thread with issues has a Mac with HDX000 GFX. For MBA this is mid-2011 onwards.

Indeed. I think I triggered it after launching iTunes and sweeping through the albums using the cover flow view last night. Could be a coincidence tho...

my freezes are a little different,

i think both times it happened, i was interacting with the DOCK

i clicked on the icon of Evernote. After that, the screen freezed.

----------

I get this repeated in my logs at the time of the crash:

I found the same into my system.log. Around this time my MBP freezed.

well, it happened to me again yesterday,

i can't back the google chrome part as im not using chrome, don't have it installed.

i don't know about flash because alot of times these crashes have happened when im not even browsing the web, though safari might be open. which even if it is, im hardly on youtube.

most of my crashes have occurred while clicking an icon of a program already running on the dock.

then graphical glitches will occur on the dock.

i did a fresh install /formatted clean install of ML before so it cant be to do with upgrades.

or macbook airs specifically.. alot of 2011 macbook pro users here are describing it. we already know theres some issue with the gfx drivers because some users including my self are experiencing profile colour changes when the graphics switches to the other card. which happens sporadically not consistently.

i turned trim back on since i doubt its that.

i just hope apple fix this, i'd rather not go back to lion, i'm really at home with the new features and especially how memory is managed better here.

Today again :( I will try to use for now only discrete graphic card.

It seems to freeze only with integrated graphic card?

Been running Chrome on my MacPro4,1 (Note: Not MBPro) w/ML since 25 Jul, not one freeze; daily freezes on 2012 MBA until I went back to Lion yesterday.

My bet is integrated graphics like everyone's been saying .....:)

I use ML since GM release. No freezes since yesterday. The only updated app yesterday was Google Chrome to Version 21.0.1180.75

Google Chrome Version 21.0.1180.57 was completly fine.

So i restored to this version, disabled the auto updater and i will use integrated graphic card now.

Today again.

I happened again as i moved the cursor over the Dock.

Therefore i can't be:

- latest version of Chrome
- discrete graphic card

I will use now discrete graphic card.

As TPadden said ;) it seems to be the integrated graphic card :(

What i don't understand, the freezes began on 09. august.

I have had the same thing happen since upgrading and I do not use Chrome. I was in Firefox and Safari when it happened. Once was when I went to change programs on the dock and another was when I went to right click on a link to open in a new tab. My cursor also still moves around but screen is completely unresponsive. I still need to go through the logs to see what I can find. I am on a 2008 MBP with NVIDIA 9400M.

There was no crash since my last post here, 11. august.

So the using of discrete graphic card seems to be a workaround.

Thanks for the further information. It just further reinforces the idea regarding the integrated intel gfx.

I haven't had a crash since i turned off the dock magnification about a week ago...but not sure if thats the reason...

It is definitely an issue with the integrated graphic card :) and of course, i think something around the dock.
Every freeze was if i moved the cursor over the dock.

I never used the dock magnification.

I'm also getting the freezes. They started yesterday, completely out of the blue, and I thought I had it zero'ed in on Chrome being the culprit, however I stopped using Chrome and still got the freezes even while trying to reinstall Mountain Lion, from the recovery partition (ie. almost no apps. running at all, no Dock, etc)

I noticed however that, like me, another user is using a Crucial M4 SSD, anyone else using this drive ?.

Thanks

I have an MBA 2012 BTO with preinstalled ML. After approx. 14 days of trouble free use, mine froze yesterday for the first time shortly after I did a Safari reset.

I experienced a freeze today after 10.8.1, haven't experienced anything bad for a year as my MBP has been flawless. Today it froze though when I was on Safari, I could move the cursor around but I had a beachball and everything was unresponsive, there was also some graphical glitches in the safari window.

Had to do a hard reset and it's been fine since. Hopefully it was an isolated incident.
