Has either MLB or Apple addressed the issue of local blackouts? I typically have blackouts of all Rays games (home and away) with the MLB.tv app. The Rays game will be one of the games available on Apple TV+ on 4/15, so I won’t have long to wait to find out.
Well I think they just got rights to stream certain games, So in away I guess they have but it doesn't mean they'll be broadcasting your team everyweek. The whole thing is silly, most baseball fans just want to see their team play, it's not like a national event Sunday football. I curse the whole blackout thing, it's done more damage to baseball than anything else.

Diversity above all else.

Above all else? Such as making great products and services, as evidenced by many millions of customers, many repeat, purchasing those products and services, year after year after year, responsible for creating record-breaking revenues year after year after year?

Apple's first Apple TV+ live sports content is set to premiere tomorrow with the debut of "Friday Night Baseball." Apple inked a deal with Major League Baseball to the rights for the 2022 season, with games set to air each Friday.

Ahead of the first game, Apple announced that baseball fans can access exclusive related programs like "Countdown to First Pitch" and "MLB Daily Recap" starting today in the Apple TV app. There is a new "Major League Baseball" heading in the Apple TV+ section of the TV app that serves as a hub for all Friday Night Baseball-related content.

The section features daily coverage, highlights, expert analysis, classic games, and more, with this content exclusive to Apple TV+ subscribers. The actual Friday Night Baseball games are available through the Apple TV app with no subscription required.

Friday Night Baseball will officially begin tomorrow at 7:00 p.m. Eastern, which is when the New York Mets will face off against the Washington Nationals. After that, Apple will show the Houston Astros versus the Los Angeles Angels at 9:30 p.m. Eastern Time.

Apple today announced its broadcast team, which will feature Melanie Newman (play-by-play), Chris Young (analyst), Hannah Keyser (analyst), and Brooke Fletcher (reporter) at 7 p.m. ET, and Stephen Nelson (play-by-play), Hunter Pence (analyst), Katie Nolan (analyst), and Heidi Watney (reporter) at 9:30 p.m. ET.

Pre and postgame coverage will be hosted by Lauren Gardner, with a group of rotating analysts and former MLB players like Carlos Peña, Cliff Floyd, and Yonder Alonso.

Friday Night Baseball games will be available in United States, Canada, Australia, Brazil, Japan, Mexico, Puerto Rico, South Korea, and the United Kingdom.

They’re no worse than the rest of the National broadcasts. I haven’t been able to watch MLB on the national networks for years. I’m a radio guy, lack of visuals requires the announcers to you know, actually talk about what’s happening on the field.

Yeah hardly anyone watches baseball outside of the USA. I guess some interest in Japan though.

Would be be a game changer for a global company like apple to get the rights to a global sport. a full tie up with a premium brand like Formula 1 would be a game changer for both apple and F1. F1 is incredibly tech focussed and would suit them well.

baseball is just a reminder that Apple is US first, and global is secondary.
Baseball is the most popular sport in Japan. Although, it is the Japan Pro Baseball League that everybody watches. When Japanese players go over to the MLB, those teams usually become popular as well. Even on the Japanese morning news I'll see something about Shohei Otani when they get to the sports section.
Now that the baseball season has started my wife always has Japanese baseball on even when it isn't her team playing.

So they actually removed the ability to watch the AppleTV+ baseball games from MLB.TV (streaming baseball). I subscribe to watch the games (I'm out of the country so there aren't any blackouts for me) and the two games say to "Watch on AppleTV+". I only have the ability to listen to the radio broadcast. I guess when those two AppleTV+ games are over then the replay will be put up on the service.
I subscribe to Apple One as well and Japan is one of the supported countries for baseball so I can still watch the games...

if you're attempting to watch the games on a Mac, the video is blacked out if you're using an external monitor. absolutely insane

Yes. The Chicago Cubs have their AAA affiliate in Des Moines. Most people in Iowa who follow baseball are Cubs fans. But the overlords have decided that Iowa is “Minnesota Twins” territory.

After initial blurriness, the picture and sound quality are the best I have seen for any sports broadcast. The announcers though...embarrassing. I don't understand why NFL are so bad and not 4k, is it waiting for ATSC 3.0 or something.

if anyone cares
the game is not on apple tv3
the announcer are horrible and should not report sports, maybe a reality show
(they refuse to cover the play by play, but jabber about......who knows?)
they promoted TV+ and 4K 5 times and kissed a star players butt more.
-horrible!
So true. Feel like it is commentary from “The View”. They should be talking about the game not people‘s age or the some off topic rabbit trail.

It feels like every time they talk about the game it gets interrupted by some lady wanting to comment on something irrelevant like Covid tests or after hours education that someone was getting during the break.

I love the camera angles and minimalist screen.

I read their list of play-by-play and color analysts and wasn’t impressed.

The commentary is embarrassing. They’re trying to make it some combo of talk show and a live podcast. BSing so much, when something interesting actually happens in the game they miss it and have to show replay to comment on it.

I very rarely comment on forums and its even rarer still for me to shout at the tv but the presenters on the pregame with the overly excited high energy and the fake 80's DJ voices added together with the incessant inane drivel of the game commentators had me screaming "shut up". I would say unwatchable but more accurate would be unlistenable.

Mostly good game. Being a Mets fan help. Bummer about Lindor. The broadcasters gotta go. They seemed to know next to nothing about baseball or the teams. The picture quality and camera shots was mostly top notch. I had an issue streaming for a minute though. It could have been on my end, but i have fios, so i have my doubts. I’d tune in again if my team is playing.

I saw the bench clearing crawl (on mlb.com now) and forgot on thursday Buck was upset and there might be tension friday. That announcer was horrible and soulless describing the scene/action, like what little of a brain they had was not in the equation of their words.

I wish they gave the option to switch to audio with just the nat sound of the stadium without any announcers. The minimal graphics was nice and reminded me of what baseball broadcast were in most of the 20th century before 25-50% of the screen was taken up by stats and advertisements. I would be much more willing to tune in if I could put the game on as background wallpaper while doing something else.

I couldn't stomach more than 3 innings. These off-the-shelf announcers are the same sanitized tokens as any other corporate spokesperson, as empty as a flat tire and as interchangeable as a spare. With their flaccid, vacuous drivel and phony enthusiasm at any hint of action, I got the feeling that their baseball knowledge ends when they take off the headphones and turn off the teleprompters. Defensive strategies with runners on base? Pitchers setting up batters? You won't learn a thing about the game from any of these people, or anything about the players but a few cold irrelevant metrics. An historic, complex strategic game reduced to mindless entertainment. It's a damn shame.
