Baseball on Apple TV is a complete failure and MLB should pull it. They need to immediately hire real, experienced baseball announcers or do what MLB.tv does and just use the local announcers.

That was just terrible.

There was a moment in the Astros/Angels game last night where they went into the stands to talk to the parents of one of the Huston players... as he was coming up to bat. The entire thing was 100% cringe. 1. They are there to see their son play... choosing as he is up to bat to be the moment to do an interview is so awkward and kinda rude. There was nothing of value to be gained by interrupting their special moment and they could have done the interview at literally any other point. 2. In the middle of the whole thing everyone, including the broadcast, basically misses him hitting a home run leading to another awkward moment where no one is sure if they should continue the interview or cheer. 3. Bubbly Blonde conducting the interview wearing Silver AirPod Max in lieu of a regular comms headset or an ear piece did not improve my perception of the situation. The whole thing brought down the quality of the broadcast and I think Apple owes the parents of that player an apology.

I wish they gave the option to switch to audio with just the nat sound of the stadium without any announcers. The minimal graphics was nice and reminded me of what baseball broadcast were in most of the 20th century before 25-50% of the screen was taken up by stats and advertisements. I would be much more willing to tune in if I could put the game on as background wallpaper while doing something else.

You're on to something truly innovative right there. The ability to choose your preferred audio stream would be brilliant. They could keep these shmucks as an option, but then have the local TV/Radio broadcaster channels or the ability to just turn off commentary all together. During the Summer olympics last year, the NBC app had all kinds of live streams that were sans commentary. It was great. Apple and MLB need to

Also, I have to agree with you about the graphics. Clean and unobtrusive. Very well done.

I stopped watching after the 3rd inning as the commentary was the worst I’ve ever heard. Non-stop talking mostly about things unrelated to the game or players. Broadcast team should be replaced and reduced to three persons who understand what baseball fans want to hear/know during a televised game.

On the plus side, I enjoyed seeing baseball in 4k. I also liked the minimalist on-screen graphics.

On the negative side, the announcers (who didn't do any color analysis) were terrible. I had to turn the sound off.

MLB.tv gives you the option to choose either home or away feeds. No reason Apple couldn't give you this same option, since MLB Network is producing this monstrosity. We could turn off the Woke Podcast and watch the game.

Announcers weren't good, but loved the picture quality and production overall. Glad they are getting into sports.

Yeah, it's great to have options on what feed you watch or listen to.
This is from a game I had on earlier. You can switch between Astros or Angels videos feeds and select a few different audio feeds as well. The screenshots are from mlb.tv on my mac, but it worked the same on the MLB app on my Xbox.

Did AppleTV not realize how bad the last ESPN Sunday night baseball team was? This feels like a carbon copy of of that woke terribleness. At least ESPN recalibrated and is now presenting a solid broadcasting team. Also the control room director did a terrible job of selecting the correct camera for the situation. Numerous times a pick off play ended up switching to the batter camera and not the first base camera. Apple deserves a solid F and I don't see it improving anytime soon.
