I am also on the NJ watch. Had no luck at Freehold or Menlo this past weekend.

As a side note, if you change the time on your computer, you can see the current stock in the stores. I checked this morning and all the NJ stores were in the red. I just changed my clock to 9 pm and saw that some of the stores do have stock. I honestly don't know how accurate it is (though I can definitely say that it changed from 10 this morning to now), but it does work to be able to see the indicators at any time of the day.

How was the scene at Freehold last weekend? What time did you get there and what did the lines look like? That's where I'm headed tomorrow morning and I'm wondering what to expect.

When I called Freehold this morning at 10 a.m. they said they had just gotten a shipment in but the website last night was showing red so I don't have too much trust in the website unless it changes every hour and I just didn't look at the right time.

haha! The old time trick, classic!

Heehee, why they left it so simplistic, I don't know. I only discovered it because I was trying to check stock for a friend in the UK...it told me to come back after 9pm, and it was 10 pm in the UK when I tried. So I changed the time, and bam, stock list came up.

It was pretty much a mob scene. I spoke to some people coming out of the store and they had about a 5 hour wait. That was around 4pm on launch day. I don't know if you're familiar with the layout of the mall, but from where the store was, they had a line that went back to the fountain area (now a Starbucks...grr) that I believe started from the BACK of the apple store. I toyed with the idea of waiting, but I couldn't find the drive to stand around for 5 hours.

Yeah, I know the mall and that paints a pretty good picture for me. Are you going to try your luck at Freehold or Menlo early tomorrow?

I just did the clock trick you mentioned and Freehold currently doesn't have the one I'm looking for (16GB black) but hopefully that may change for tomorrow morning. It's one thing to wait on a line when you know they atleast have some of the model you are looking for but it's a whole other thing to wait on a line not even knowing if they have your model in stock.

Once you fool it by changing your computer's clock, it does seem to be "live". Judging by the script, it does go out to a feed from Apple. I was checking it, and watched as one store when from 3 green to out of 16GB Black iPhones...

I'm debating it. My DF order has been hopelessly stuck in a void this entire week. I've rather lost patience with it and I know as soon as I wait in some line for several hours, the phone will ship. It's sod's law, and very familiar to me. I'll see how I feel about it later on tonight.

Good to know! Thanks for checking it! I wonder when they'll figure out that their system is trickable and if they'll bother to do anything about it.

maybe i can help clarify...so all this week my store has been showing that they would not have the iphone the following day. however, after a week of this occurring, I got frustrated and called this morning right at opening time. I was told they did not plan on getting any in today so I further asked if they had gotten any shipments earlier in the week. To my suprise the guy said yes we have, but they usually sell out quickly in the morning.
I just tried the trick and surprise, it is showing all green for my store even though I was just there an hour ago and just called after seeing it and was told they were out of stock. I believe the availability is based on shipments that will arrive and are to be sold the following day. Even though my store is showing all green, the guy on the phone is saying sold out, so either 1. its due to arrive today or 2. it already arrived but they are not going to sell them until the morning to maintain the validity of checker. The frustration is only mounting.

I think you hit the nail on the head. I've had pretty good luck finding my store with stock yesterday and today even though the website made no mention of it. I think the best bet is to call in the morning during the week around 10 am and if you are close you can run in there and probably pick one up. However, on the weekend in the morning, when many more people aren't working, by the time you call at 10 am the line may already be too long and you may be out of luck. On Sat/Sun, if you really want to improve your chances it just may be best to head there an hour or two before they open if you can swing it and hope for the best.

That's what I plan to do tomorrow morning.

yea my store opens at 10 so i think im going to get there at around 8:30 and rough it out. im just getting irritated at the mystery that is "stock levels". last night it showed all red for my store for today, and now using that trick i can see all green at the moment. But I can call 1,000 times right now and they will keep telling me there are none in stock. Im willing to be this little tracker works on the basis of scheduled deliveries or maybe it does work on actual stock levels, but its my feeling that they designate certain amounts for the following day so that the tracker is accurate. Its quite clever actually, by using this tool, it ensures that there will be mad rushes to the store the following day, adding to the media hype and allowing them to sell out almost instantly. Limit the supply, and up goes the demand, especially when its right out of reach.

Freehold seemed to have a ton (relatively speaking) around noon-2 while I was there getting my 2G looked at. They kept going in back and grabbing 10 at a time, various flavors.

I don't know if they still have any. They did have a line about 20 deep that wasn't moving.

Oh joyous day! After refreshing the order status page for one week straight, my iPhone has finally shipped. I am so relieved! I really was going to bite the bullet and stand in line...I really do wish everyone the best of luck tracking one down. Patience was key here - either waiting for direct fulfillment or standing in line. You WILL get an iPhone!

Me and a coworker went to Menlo today during our lunch break just to play with the display phones and we noticed a line out front. Long story short, I ended buying the last white 16GB and he bought a 1 Black 16GB and 1 White.

This whole "check the website after 9PM is a total crock". The guy in charge of the line mentioned that they will only show the Green Signal if they have more than 50 phones in stock that night before closing. It has nothing to do with morning shipments, so there is a great possibility that a lot of the stores will have them every morning.

This is not completely true...check this site...i am testing it right now...

I believe it updates every 2 hours.

It may not show how many in stock, but it will show you if they have a certain model.
