I was able to order a touchpad today for $99 woot woot.

Also, ever since I started this thread I've been playing a lot with my friend's touchpad and I gotta say,it is a very very nice tablet.

Ok so we know the ipad 2 beats the tablet pretty decisively but I'll still break it down
(by the way guys I ****ed up my back playing football today so am on a lot of pain madications right now, please excuse)

Built Quality: Ipad 2 wins by a mile ipad 4 touchpad 0
Screen: pretty similary ut ipad is a bit brighter so ipad 3 touchpad 1
sound quality: touchpad sound is so much better than the ipad. touchpad 3 ipad 1

browser: webos browser is faster, flash capable, smoother, better in every way. touchpad 4 ipad 0
smoothness and stability: ipad is so much better it's not even funny ipad 4 touchpad 0
cameras: touchpad 1 ipad 3
battery life: ipad 3 touchpad 1
and of course, APPS: I award Ipad another 4 and touchpad a 0

ipad is still better but I don't think anyone ever thought it wasn't. The Touchpad is still a VERY VERY Solid device though and a complete steal at $99. I don't know if someone could why they WON't GET it for $99.

A much more balanced and reasoned post than your opening.

Goddamn why are HP not extending the fire sale to Europe?

Look at their Irish site, links to Irish reseller and stare at the prices.

http://h41112.www4.hp.com/promo/webos/ie/en/tablet/touchpad.html

€580 for 32Gb ($750 compared to $150) :( :(

At $99 each, I bought 4 HP touchpads. These things can play 720p flash video for crying out loud, and they're cheaper than the ad-supported kindle!

I'll be more than content with WebOS, but when android gets ported to it, that may be a temptation I can't resist...

And I considered picking up an iPad 2 earlier this year, but it really is just too expensive for a media consumption device that has very little additional functionality compared to my iPhone 4. I instead built a core i5 2500k gaming PC for about the same price I would have spent on an iPad.

for paying $500 for the ipad 2...

told him to eff off but he's reveling in the fact he got somewhat of the same thing for 1/5th the price. :(

Yes I bought a Ferrari but my friend bought a Ford for 1/10th of the price and it basically does the same thing! I'm gutted!

Good thing the gap between the iPad and the Touchpad isn't as wide as it is between a Ferrari and a Ford.

Yeah, I would say the gap difference is more like this:

iPad 2 = Lexus
Touchpad = Toyota

They are pretty similar, but the Lexus has a some nicer features that make it an overall better product and also it has more brand prestige.

I would agree with that.

Lol. Fan boys patting each other on the back. After you get your Touchpads and learn how to navigate in & out of apps and windows....

let me know if you still think that iPad is a "Lexus".

The iPad2 is definitely faster and has a much more powerful graphics chip, but WebOS has notifications and multitasking which is generations ahead of anything iOS currently offers.

I've played with the touchpad, so im familiar with what you are saying. First of all, opening a new card for every tab and switching between them is a much bigger pain in the butt than iPads multiple windows (or other browsers available on the iPad that have tabs).

Second, notifications are about to get fixed with iOS 5... And webOS flaws will be fixed never cause it's dead.

Multitasking is the one area where iOS lacks a bit, but what is available is adequate for most people's needs. It certainly works ok for me since I typically focus on one task at a time only occasionally multitasking (example: checking an email that came in while I am surfing the net).

Interesting analogy but you should know Lexus is owned by Toyota! ;)

Nah, you can also swipe up and it puts your current screen as a card and you can then move to other cards fast w/out pressing the button. I find it faster than 'multitasking' on the iPad 2 you just have to get used to something new, the same as when multi came for iOS4... You guys can also sped up your touchpad w/ the call to minimize LOGS and two tweaks to remove the rest of the logs and the touchpad will run as quick as an iPad 2 and if you decide to overclock it then it will run faster than the iPad. For the browser if you guys want tabs there is Advanced Browser which has them. I have owned by touchpad since saturday firesale BTW :p

Also, a Lexus is made WITH Toyota parts, look at the windows in the corner it reads GASP Toyota :p

I would say the touchpad is like a Toyota (Maybe it's Scion division) and the iPad 2 is like Porsche. Most of the population can afford a Toyota and it does things good enough while a Porsche does the same things but looking better & sleek while doing so, but it cost 5X as much.

Just a idea:

microsoft should make a similar device and sell it for cost (say $200ish)...give dev a 50-50% cut for sw sold threw a app type online store...

then apple would finally have some comp...

na ballmers too stupid to do this...nevermind
