Friend has new 256gb X on Verizon

He bought it from a third party and has the original receipt showing it was paid in full.

He and I are on AT&T. Is there any other way of activating this phone without a Verizon sim card?

I think the problem will be at&t gsm vs verizon cdma, but times may have changed since I tried swapping carriers phones vs service.

Now a days there shouldn't be a issue switching phones from verizon to AT&T. My daughter was given a 6+ that was verizon and we switched it to AT&T no problem.

Yes, just add the AT&T SIM card and it will work. The Verizon model is fully unlocked and supports GSM and CDMA

Nope, they sell the phone fully unlocked, so just insert the SIM card, turn the phone on, and it works. If it doesn’t, then the 3rd party seller probably reported it stolen.

From Apple or Verizon, they are unlocked by default.

I handed one of my Verizon iPhone X to my friend, he inserted the T-mobile sim and turned it on.
The phone stuck in the activation screen with my phone number.

If bought with your verizon info, it will ask for the verizon account info. You can actually have a T-mobile SIM in the phone and still enter the required verizon info.

If bought in full from apple (currently in store only if not using verizon account info), it does not ask for any verizon info.

No. I purchased an iPhone X from Verizon using my line and account. When I resold it, I simply turned it on, activated it using my phone # and account pin. Then I immediately disabled "find my iPhone", did a full factory reset, and then removed the Verizon SIM card from the phone. The seller then inserted his other carrier SIM card, and the phone was able to be activated without me having to input my phone #, social sec, or account pin again.

You are overthinking this. In a worst case scenario you can also take the phone to a Verizon store and they can unlink it from the Verizon account it was purchased on.

I heard posters stating that even with a linked account, it was able to be activated on a different carrier SIM without being asked for the Verizon details. Regardless, there are plenty of workarounds. I do recommend first activating the phone using the Verizon SIM and account, then doing a full factory reset before switching out the SIM cards

Verizon phone can easily be activated on ATT with an ATT sim. The Verizon phone, according to the specs, supports GSM as well.
My 8+, 7+ we’re “Verizon” phones and I didn’t have to do anything special to get them to work on ATT.
