Fring Adds Two-Way Video Calling Over 3G to iPhone 4

Let us know if it is as choppy a video experience as what the vid on YouTube appears to be. And if the YouTube video was just distorting her voice but you experience better voice quality.
Finally, see if you can do it on 3G and give us an idea if it sucks MB of 3G data from AT&T's alloted 2 GB.

Just tried it. Not as crisp as Facetime, but definitely still usable, especially when considering it can be used over 3G and with skype, msn, etc. No harm in having both installed. I'll use facetime when I'm in a WiFi zone and talking to someone on a iPhone 4, and then Fring when I'm in a 3G only zone, or skyping or whatnot.

If they can't do them perfectly Apple have a history of not doing things at all. This isn't anywhere near perfect.

Really though, this is only good for apple in the long run. Think about it, they still make money because now that video chat can be done on 3G and Wifi using this app, it will help push people who were irritated at Facetimes gimps, to go ahead and buy the iPhone, and just install Fring.
Not bad..just had a video chat with a friend on his laptop..it's not the best but it sure is fun to have the option. Pretty cool.
Didn't stutter for me, worked ok. Not Facetime quality, but better than not having the ability to video chat over 3G.

I live in Australia and I have checked for the update of fring but we do not have it on our app store. I have noticed a lot of the updates mentioned around the place don't make it to our store. Kinda sucks!

It is good technology but the audacity and over impingement of this guy gets to be annoying. In fact, his abrasive panache could be loosing him sales -- epically in the Apple realm. This is what spokes models are for on product launches.
You find the right pretty face and pleasant voice talk about your product, her modeling fee is quickly recovered when the promotion airs. Just don't try to get a date, a good girl will know to not work with you again.
If anything, get someone's girlfriend who is even semi-hot and have her do some video shoot work for an afternoon. I have a short list of a half dozen girls when I need both duty or modeling done for product roll-outs.

Now that AT&T has placed a cap on their data plan, this looks like it could eat up your bandwith fairly quickly.

Itll probably take 6-8 more months seeing how long it took them to add 3G calling.
