No I'm not.

My opinion is certainly influenced by history.

Whoever buys a first generation product is wallowing in misery during ownership of that product. Those who buy a second generation product and beyond experience smooth sailing. It's a historical fact. Got it.

I wouldn't call about 4 years of original iPhone usage misery exactly, although the mostly sub-EDGE network speeds around me were pretty miserable, I will admit.

its 2015 and they still havent figured out an energy efficient way to display the time all the time? i will wait for gen 3

I guess this would be a good idea if someone 3 feet tall was always walking beside me and wanted to look at my wrist to see the time. Otherwise, why do you need to have the time showing if you're not looking at the watch? Have you really thought this through?

The first gen iPhone wasn't exactly a huge success, I profited on that by getting a new one in April 2008 for £179. After Apple got their act together, prices like that would never be seen again.

I'm not sure how you measure success. But the iPhone definitely had enormous mindshare throughout 2007. I bought mine day one, Friday, June 29 and I'll be buying Apple Watch on debut day as well. I am willing to make the sacrifice :)

Wait, is the little one gonna be $349? I need to start saving up more money.

It practically didn't exist in the UK, EDGE coverage was awful, and you could only get it on O2 with an unattractive overpriced contract.

I knew people who thought the 3G was the first iPhone, and thought mine was some limited edition. In a way, it was, it didn't even last a year over here, wasn't followed by an "S" model, and was drastically reduced to clear only months after the UK rollout, to clear unsold stock pre app store and 3G launch.

Thats's when I sprung for it, or rather, Dreamcasted it.

Interesting. There goes my theory that they were meant to be mens and women styles... Looks like it's more a choice between geek and super-geek.

Just gotta figure out which I am.

Just got a Pebble this week (Reading Rainbow kickstarter). I like it as a watch, but I always need to remember that it's mostly a watch. It's not a new toy I can spend hours playing with like an iPad. The smart watch occupies an interesting region of the utility/comfort plane.

The Pebble is 52x36mm. I assume the 52 includes the ears for holding the band, and the 36 includes the buttons. I think a 42mm square is going to be large...

The two Apple Watches are 10% different in length, 20% different in area. Do they carry the same feature set? I'll be curious if there's a difference in battery life...

I wear an iPod nano watch, but I'm unsure of which direction I'm leaning toward. Might order both and return the one I like the least. I fear availability will be scarce, so preordering is a must!

Yes, availability will be scarce, especially with folks intentionally ordering twice as many as they actually want.

Or you could, you know, wait until they reach the stores, go visit them, try on both sizes, carefully decide which you like best, put in an order and *gasp* wait a little while. With a phone or a computer, at least there's some coordination involved in switching over to the new one, but with the Apple Watch, no one is having to coordinate switching over from their previous smartwatch (except a few Pebble owners, and it's not like you can move over your apps/data, or need to change your contract), so the "need" to get it right away really boils down to just wanting it ASAP. Relax, take some deep breaths...

Having a watch not use any energy to show the time when you're not looking at it, will ALWAYS be more energy efficient than having a watch have an always on display. Why would you want your display to be on when you're not looking at it?

Your argument is like complaining no one has figured out an energy efficient way for me to not have to turn down the thermostat when I leave my house for a 2 week vacation in winter.

History suggests that people shouldn't rush out to buy the first iteration regardless.
That's true of any product for which there will be another iteration, first or otherwise. Logic suggests you shouldn't buy any technology. Ever.

Maybe 3rd party manufacturers can develop other attachments besides the wristband.
Maybe a tie clip, belt clip, watch fob, hat clip near the jaw bone or on-shirt pin, like a Star Trek communicator pin. Taptic may still work.

Not my point, but that isn't always the case either.

38 mm looks right to me

One of the reasons I wasn't interested at all in other watches was the sheer size, like wearing an iPhone on your wrist. 38 mm would be cool.

Another thing is, they will have many, many styles available, not just three.

Not even sure if I'll get a first gen…but this has me wondering which size to get. I went too big with the iPhone 6 Plus and I regret it massively. Even though I'm an average sized guy my wrists are a bit narrow. I usually don't get huge watch faces but thought the bigger Apple Watch would be easier to operate. Looking at these pictures, all I can think of is "Yikes!"

Also if the stainless steel is over $500, which it likely will be, then I'm definitely waiting for the next generation.
