Front Row is an overrated fad.

Not so, properly applied. If you had the computer hooked to your TV and could get a great picture (HD?) then it is not a fad, it is an addition to your system. It would work well with Optical Out for Audio so you could do all your iTunes and DVD through the home system, and a great pic for running on the TV. I hope, as do others, that they will soon run an addition that will allow me to run on my PB.

Front Row has potential, just what is Apple going to do with it is the question.

iBook 1.33ghz 512mb Tiger 10.4.2

runs perfect so yeah upgrade that memory

Yeah i'm thinking about it...it's pretty laggy...i mean my system can't handle too much apps at one time...

I can confirm it works. Although you can tell it was made to work with a remote.

Cool mod:
create apple script---

tell application "System Event"
tell application "Front Row" to activate
key code 53 using command down
end tell

--then compile and save.

Use an app like Xkeys to assign a key to launch the applescript. Takes about a second.5 to launch.

I can't get that to compile, any tips?

Mac mini trial on this??

Can anyone confirm if this works ok on a mac mini? (i.e a card without Core Image support?)

Thanks

They'll probably release both FrontRow and PhotoBooth for all macs after Christmas. The iMac is the product for Christmas together with the iPods, so they just want to give it some + selling points.

I already have PhotoBooth and i have a G5 - i went to my Apple dealer on Friday which is a close family friend for years and i tell him 'am stealing your PhotoBooth!', and he says 'Go ahead, they'll release it sooner or later'.

I look like Johnny Bravo!!! :D Mama mia!

Yeah we both have a similar sense of humour :). As i said he is like an uncle to me so i am not 'typical' with him at all. And he also trusts me because i proved to him many times that i can deal with a serious situation. So my advice to you is to visit an AppleStore and have some fun with PhotoBooth, it will chill you out

Cheers

hehe...cool and i'll check it out too at the Apple Store...Cheers...:D

Apple is bound to pull this as soon as possible, but good to see it working.

As with a lot of people, I want to replace my DVD player at home with a MAC mini and Front Row. The misses has already agreed with this as "It's so small and cute!". A new remote has to be Bluetooth without question. I was surprised to see Apple use IrDA!

Oh well, i can keep on dreaming that it'll happen one day. Mac Mini + blu-ray + Frontrow + remote all hooked up to my 42" plasma. Looooooovely! :p

How do I change the Front Row icon? I don't really like the apple script look.

maybe the usual way will work...right click on the dock icon, then show in finder, then command+i, then find for the icon u want, command+c then on the front row info, command+v

It works.... but not entirely.

DVD doesn't work at all, as others have mentioned: "An error was encountered while communicating with DVD Player".
Maybe the DVD Player app has to be updated?

The rest worked for me, albeit very slow in caching the libraries. It took 1 m. 30 secs. for it to let it show 40 photos...

I assume either it is not complete, or the communication with the apps it uses is not up-to-date.

If ever Apple were to release Front Row with remote (which really truely works), it would be a huge success!

I get an error message when trying to get to iTunes as well. I can see songs/playlists, but once I try to play em... "an error was encountered..."

Also, does anyone have an easy way to make this work with sailing clicker or Romeo?

i made a little remeo plugin its not great but it works..
im trying to find out how to use the little joystick on my phone to browse trough the menu's

anyway here's my romeo plugin for frontrow
