Because that remote is for use with the iPod dock.

thanks for the help. So will any remote work with this, or is there a specific one? What would you do if your remote that comes with the imac breaks?

I think this is interesting;

Yeah, but like I stated, with the right version, you don't need to do ANYTHING besides open it and push ESC. I chose to put it in my applications folder, but did not have to.

I have a video of it working uploading right now.

Kay, even if you can hack it, is there really a point to using FrontRow without the remote?

Well, for one thing, it offers a really cool interface for watching movie trailers (which I haven't seen mentioned here yet).

Oh, and for those who have it installed, activating Front Row is yet another visual effect that works with the apple 'hold down shift and make it super-slow-motion' trick.

Although everyone here is participating in a completely illegal activity, something makes me so happy to see this working.

Due to personal reasons, I will not download and install this app, but I am dying to have this working on my Powerbook plugged into my HD tv. I am amazed that Apple doesnt want to make between 50-100 dollars per person who sees this as a compelling thing to add to their suite of applications.

Apple is really missing the boat on this one...must be for performance reasons...they could make a killing off of this one...

however, if they are truly brilliant, they are indeed simply going to bundle this with the next version of iLife, and that will push all of us to fork over our hard earned $$ ... what would you all pay for this?

Considering a totally upgraded versions of iphoto, idvd, imovie + frontrow and photobooth + bluetooth remote, I would pay up to 150...200 would be too much...

just read the apple remote page on apple.com, and it is a replacement for the imac g5, not just for the ipod. does the imac have something specific that makes this work, or does it use bluetooth?

i have had it running for a few hours, i keep going back to it because it's so FREAKING SWEET (sorry to quote family guy there :))

got no problems on any of my machines. and i've got a salling clicker script for it too! YEAH!

Also on the Apple.com page
Compatible with Apple products introduced in 2005 or later that have a built-in Infrared (IR) receiver.

OMG I JUST GOT FRONT ROW WORKING ON MY 12" POWERBOOK and i just realized how much i DONT NEED IT!!! such a novelty....but maybe its just cause i dont' have a remote....yet

the remote isn't bluetooth its IR(infared)

I have found a little problem with Frontrow

After running front row and watching the latest HEX, (AVI file worked fine in Frontrow) All of my Safari Windows have lost the minimise button and it's even grayed out in the window menu.

edit - They come back after restarting the application.

yeah it's infrared. the IR reciever in the iMac is behind the Apple logo...

Anyone get this working with Panther? I am asking for a friend, I got in working in Tiger.

it's going to be Tiger only, because of the use of core video etc.

Yes, same here.

Works fine, but I agree it's really beyond pointless without a remote. I can, however, walk across the room and see how much time is left in the song that's playing. Wahoo...

crazy! I already had that Bezel framework thing on my system and I needed no restart. my system must be haunted or something!
