Where do your kids stream all this Data ?

If they are sitting at home all you need is Wifi.

Is it really necessary for the kids to be able to stream netflix on the bus ride home ? No it is Not.

Teach them how to upload a movie onto the device instead of shelling out for data plans so they can be connected 24/7

Have you checked this option?
http://www.millenicom.com

That's actually an interesting option. Maybe a Christmas present for me:). I wonder what their coverage is like.

Did you read the part where we travel a lot via car??

All the arguing about what data plans cost aside, its the not having roll over data that bugs me. Yes I already have the lowest data plan for my iPad, so don't say buy less. There are months when I use very little data and still pay the same price, but there are months when I use more, for whatever reason, and go over and have to pay for more. I do the same on voice minutes, but I have roll over minutes to save me the cost of the extras. If you are paying for ? amount of data and don't use it, why not be able to save it for the months you go over? I would even be happy if there was a small limit to roll over data that you could save. I know some of you will jump on something I said and tell me just be more frugal with data or be willing to pay more, etc. But I really do think it would be great to have r/o data, but we don't so I'll just keep paying for what I have and keep hoping the competition between companies will force a change soon.

Why is it so darn hard to get a reasonable amount if data for iPads?! I have three iPads, two of them for my kids. Getting three data plans is ridiculous but using my iPad 3 as a hotspot on Verizon gets me like 7 minutes of data if my kids are streaming silly Netflix videos. My mom has unlimited on her iPad and would let me assume her account but that doesn't help my kids iPads. Why can't they offer a reasonable amount of data? I'd even take 3G data at this point as long as streaming can take place.

Bandwidth is going to always be limited so the carriers have got to restrict its use or most/many would abuse it. Those "silly Netflix videos take a lot of bandwidth.

Can you get them to do it via WiFi? Even if you do travel a good bit by car, most motels offer free WiFi so get the kids to do their movies downloaded at night and before you head out in the morning. Heck almost any Micky D's and other restaurants do the same.

Think of it this way, your whole family driving down the road with 4-5 devices "GULPING" huge amounts of bandwidth will always cost you! I do not think a carrier will ever offer that kind of plan, if it did it would be VERY expensive.

They do/ did from my friends iPhone that has Verizon unlimited with tethering for an extra $30. It wouldn't be 4-5 devices... Rather 2-3 at most.

You are only 18-24 months away from mainstream cars having hot spots - Audi has it now, BMW next year and most other cars (meaning $20-35k cars) will have it soon. It will probably be around $30 a month.....

Yes... This is true... And how much does one get for $30 a month?

I will bet it will be restricted. Bandwidth is bandwidth no matter how it is obtained. About the best you could do is find a carrier that will sell you a large bucket of data and get all the devices eating out of it. It will not be cheap but this is where we are with today's market.

You can move over to Sprint. They are the only ones that offer unlimited anymore. The new iPad models now work with Sprint. Or get a hotspot with Sprint and share the signal.

Sadly the type of usage you want is the exact reason AT&T and Verizon have eliminated the unlimited option. Too many people in the past used way too much and they used it as a reason to put people on tiered plans.

The only way people were able to keep their unlimited plans were to be throttled or to purchase at full retail prices.

I know this.. But it seems they could offer it for a price... Say $60 a month. I'm not asking for it to be free.... Maybe with a 10 gb cap or 20?.... Or throttling....

I would suggest trying to buy someone's unlimited account. I got one recently and just starting to realize the iPad is only really useful to me if I have access to LTE or fast wifi at all times.

I've tried... But I can't make it work... I have a Verizon ipad 3... I need a plan with a hotspot. I'd switch with my mom for her iPad 3 AT&T with unlimited but it doesn't have hotspot. If there's something I'm missing please tell me.

6 minutes of streaming the iPad Mini conference = 194MB on LTE

when i saw what was going on i stopped and continued watching on my iPhone 4S since i have unlimited 3G on that

Can I adjust the streaming rate on my kids iPads? They don't need the best quality.

I don't know who your provider is but Verizon does offer data plans larger than than just the ones they list online. You just have to call them. However, it won't be cheap but will be less than paying for the base plans with overage.

Also, i don't know if you know this but your responses seem to have an edge to them. In reading the posts we're trying to help for the most part. I think we can all agree that we want a lot more data at a cheaper price. I just don't think it's realistic to think it will happen in the near future. With the lack of real options the carriers can collude and we all pay more for less.

I get around that by jail breaking :)

wow, listen to all the ******s in here posting about how they disagree with the OP while giving ZERO helpful advice.

Do you have att or verizon? Can you get you mom's unlimited plan and jailbreak you ipad and use that ipad as a hotspot?

Don't they eventually catch on to that?

If there's an edge... Then you are assuming that yourself. Unless the post I am responding to was blatantly rude... Then there is no edge. I've responded positively to many suggestions.

Suggestions where given. He said he found it too hard to get enough data. Some suggested it is actually really easy to get data by paying for it. Then he changed his complaint once he looked like a whiny tool.

I never changed my complaint. I have investigated millenicom, sprint hotspot, and jail breaking my mom's iPad bc of the suggestions here.

No... A decent amount for a decent price.

You should re-read your first post. Not once do you mention the cost. You specifically say it is too hard to get data. You just didn't like the answer.

I don't know how you normally speak to people but if anyone speaking to me starts a sentence with "I know that.." I would normally stop the conversation right there. It could just be me but that seems a little rude. Do you let your kids talk to you like that?

Also, I haven't heard why Sprint isn't an option for you. Is there no signal in your area? They have what you want/need. It may not be the best option but it is an option.
