Not every carrier is having problems. As I have previously stated I am having no issues and in fact my signal strength has greatly improved. My husband got the 12 Pro and I have the 12 Pro Max. We both have a Sprint SIM which is part of T-Mobile. In addition, I have seen a few reports of issues with AT&T but it is nothing compared to Verizon issues.

I still think this is a compatibility issue with the iPhone 12 line and Verizon towers. Who is at fault remains to be seen.

Before you all blame Apple I believe the issue lies with verizon. My dad and a few friends of mine all have had issue since they turned on there 5G network. I’m the only one with a 12, my dad has the Xr and a friend has a s20+ so it’s not just the iPhone 12’s. I put the issue in Verizon’s hands not Apple. Another friend exchanged his iPhone 12 and still has the same issue

Good point.

Because the issue with notifications for messages is happening to people on all carriers.
No problem with messages here. On Sprint/T-Mobile and my son is on Verizon with a non-5G Samsung phone. No issues texting him or any of my friends with Apple or Android phones. I still think it is a Verizon 5G issue. I am not discounting an Apple issue with Verizon's 5G.

Didn’t know that thanks. And the post above mine explicitly mentions they don’t have it. Which makes me lean on the carrier for that reason.

Common denominator with a majority of these reported issues has been Verizon as the carrier. IMO they screwed up their 5G implementation. Most carriers figured out that MM wave is not going to be the saving grace of 5G because it requires to many small cells and antennas to service an area because of the signal limitations. At&t and T-Mobile/Sprint figured this out early and decided to re-farmed their lower band spectrum since they have a great deal of Mid / low band to work with. Verizon problem stems from not having enough spectrum to do the same. So they tried to plow ahead with the MM wave train and found out that it ran off the tracks and crashed pretty fast. They fell behind the other two in rollout and signal reach in dramatic fashion.

Here is when the screw up happened. They panicked big time and that couple years of sitting out these spectrum auctions have come to bite them in the rear big time. This was predicted years back on why they didn't go more aggressive in the spectrum auctions. So with more limited spectrum than the other two they had no choice but to try the DSS(Dynamic Spectrum Sharing) approach and that is where the implementation is screwed up. When you rush you don't properly test things and you get these types of problems.

At&t and T-Mobile have enough low and mid band spectrum that right now that they haven't even begun to do DSS yet as they are still testing that out. Everyone in the wireless game said that Verizon was being short sighted and sure enough they were right.

Interesting. But apparently Verizon feels that it's worth their money to pay Apple to advertise 5G for them. :D

Still got to advertise to keep their numbers and churn within their vision. But they should of taken people advise and got some additional spectrum for 5G other than the MM Wave.

I don’t know about the call situation but I also have Verizon and a iPhone 12. You might try message+ by Verizon as a backup for your text messages. You get messages on iMessage and Message+ on your device. So far as I can tell I missed one picture on iMessage, but it was on Message+

If you dont actually have a 5G plan then you are not getting it. For ATT it required a plan upgrade. If you are on 5G and not 5Ge, turn it off to see if the same issues persist. I think there is also an option to reset network settings.

I got a new 12 Pro through my company on Verizon. I was on an old unlimited data plan and things worked fine. I had 5G connectivity, but no access to UW 5G. That’s fine, but my account was switched to a new unlimited account on Verizon and my phone has been slow since. Slow download speeds in most places. I just reset network settings to see what happens. I do have a 5G SIM card. Weird.

There are certainly several things at work: (1) few faulty hardware units (as every year), (2) some faulty SIM cards or old SIM cards used not ready for 5G, and (3) not fully baked technology or not fully rolled-out tower transition. (1) and (2) you can easily manage - return & exchange. For Verizon customers: if your phone allows for it, switch out for a T-Mobile SIM (from a friend / family member) and see if the issue continues.

I am on Verizon with a SIM free Apple purchased 12 Pro, a Verizon 5G SIM on a 5G UW plan. Even when traveling across several states, which I do frequently, I have not experienced more than the occasional call dropping or "no service" issues.

I'm having the same problem as OP using a Verizon 12 Pro and had zero issues with my 6S the entirety of the 5 years I had it.

I know someone who had similar issues with 10 Max but not sure how/if that was resolved when they bought the phone at release.

I'm going to be contacting Verizon as I dont believe this is an Apple issue. I am using the same sim I used in my 6S for years so perhaps that is an issue, but who knows. I didnt have any problems with this the first 2 weeks of ownership and this past week it's occurred multiple times.

Let us all know if you get this resolved and how. Thx :)

FWIW I had SMS issues with my new Max. AT&T told me to boot off the phone, remove the sim and wipe with a soft cloth then insert and boot up. Worked like a charm!

Do you have a new 5g sim for that network?

I got a new SIMs for both phones from Sprint. I did not move the old SIM cards from either old phone to the new iPhone 12s. I was told by a Sprint tech that I have access to both Sprint and T-Mobile towers.

I had called them because I had a Magic Box 3 that was no longer working with the 12's. He said that was to be expected - it would work with my iPad Pro which does not have 5G but not the phones. So I sent the Magic Box back to Sprint. Which is fine as the 12's have much better signal strength and do not need it.

Update! I have reset factory settings thru my MacBook. That was the mats step they wanted me to do. Still losing service and not getting messages and u able to call out randomly.
I am going back to my X u til they fix this. With my wife being pregnant I cannot chance it!

I didn’t expect it to work but I took @fatTribble advice from above and this issue is seemingly resolved. 48 hours in a weak signal area without “No Service” rudely interrupting my flow. Will see how long term of a fix it is in a few days when I go back on shift.
